Miko K
There is a way. Unscrew the EGR tube from the exhaust manifold and cut the very end of it, to release the nut that ataches it to the manifold. Put a coin in the nut, to plug the hole and tighten it down. Then just put a breather filter on the end of the tube and done. I tried uding a EGR block off plate, but the PCM throws a code for insuficient EGR flow. INTENSE racing sells a EGR simulator, but it's a rather expensive device. Here you can see the way I made mine- the blue tube between the EGR and the brake fluid reservoir, on the end of it I had a breather filter. slick
Or.... You can get a chip from Ben, and he will turn off the EGR for ya.
digitaloutsider
x2. Then you're not hacking your car up in case you want it back later (like if you move to an area with emissions testing).
19Cutlass94
But how often is carbon building up in the EGR? I duno about anyone else, but where it builds up on mine is the port between the bakc of the TB and the EGR, That fills with carbon, throws a code and makes my car run like shit. Ive only cleaned mine out once and I think that was at maybe 75,000mi. If yours keeps building up that much, that fast, it could be something else than the EGR. nebojsa_o
Is removing the EGR worth it performance wise? Or is the biggest benefit not cleaning it?
GutlessSupreme
If your EGR is plugging up THAT much then you have bigger things to worry about.. something else is wrong with the motor. It's not exactly common for them to just plug up often. Maybe once every 150,000+ miles, and even then I've rarely heard of anybody really need to clean one. You must be running really rich or something.
