Mr.ChevZ34
Hey all, I would like to know if it is possible to use the stock wiring harness in a 1989-1990 GP Se if a 3.8L is installed. I am leaning more towards what sensors have to be changed if we can use the wire harness for the 2.8L that is in the GP. Here is the info: -Have a 1989 Grand Prix SE w/. 2.8L MPFI -want to install a 3.8L out of a 1992 Buick LeSabre. -want to know what has to be cchanged in order to do the swap. -may sell a 2.8L with around 160,000km's on it. All help would be appreciated but please don't diss the idea as I dont have time for stuff like that.
J
just get the harness form the 3.8 It'll save you a massive headache, so in other words sure it'll work, after hacking it to shit. The problem is that if one connection fails then u have to find out where it is, that would be a huge PITA.
manitcor
for all the work required to swap in an entirely different engine (espically the harness work) I would personally look at something more modern 3400, 3800, L67 either way you hacking and splicing a harness, might as well maximize your investment and go with an engine with an actual aftermarket. brianteel
if you want a 3800 use the monte carlo harness and a series 2 motor. it is the cheapest way to go. the 92 motor will take alot to get it to work right you will need regal engine harnes and mounts from the 1st gen car to get that motor and trans to work
pitzel
The LeSabre is an H-body, and the motor mounts work substantially differently on those cars versus the W-bodies. If you're gonna do the swap, you probably want a 3800 out of a W-body, ie: a Regal, or similar.
