gmrulz4u
I'm changing all 4 of my struts on my 89 Supreme this Tuesday to KYB GR-2s. I'm wondering if there's anything else I should, or am supposed to change or do while I'm at it? For example, what are "strut cushions"? Is there any bushings or bearing etc...that I should replace? Or am I just supposed to drop in the new cartridges, and that's it? THANKS!
TGPilot
If it is the same as the Grand Prix W-body then you should not need to do anything other than replace the strut and get a 4-wheel alignment upon replacement of the struts. Sometimes due to excessive wear you will need to replace the upper strut mount on the rear struts and the front spring carrier bearing might be worn out. You should receive the replacement strut cushion for the rear struts (just a piesce of foam that goes over the strut rod to protect the strut from being bottomed out on itself). The front stut mounting parts are pretty bullet-proof so you should not need to replace anything there. Now a topic that has come up a few times on here...there is a special tool for doing the front strut cartridge replacement. It is called a "W-body cartridge replacement tool". It is very easy to use and makes the replacement of the front struts very very easy! Some say to go out through the bottom...I say use the special tool. You can get one as a loaner from Auto-Zone or the Checker auto franchise. Hope this helps... 8)

BlackSunshine
I agree with red. You definetly want to check out the mounts. If they look even a little deteriorated than its worth changing them because if they go you will have to do this all over again. But, thats just a thought. KYB's..Good choice bro! She is gonna ride like a champ. Have one on me!(not)
