fergup
Because of the 12 F*#N days of rain in the Northeast I have barely been able to drive with the windows down, much less the top. I finally did 2 days ago. I have discovered a very odd sound coming frm the engine. 1: It is a consistant clicking//vacuum sound, like something is trying to reset. 2: It is coming from the vacinity below the power steering resevoir best I can hear. 3: It only happens when the heater is on. It goes away when the heater is off. Any clues???? http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2149961 :?

fergup
Dummy?? Thanks I appreciate that. HMMM. I have never dealt with an AC clutch. Something I can replace or is this a mechanics job??

Ignore his comment. The A/C clutch comes on like that. It's not a problem. If you're using the defrost at all, it'll come on.

Yes it make the sound initially when I turn the heater on and that is normal.... There must be some problem though because it continues to cycle this sound nonstop,, sometimes slow other times in rapid succession but it is a nonstop click/suck click/suck, click/suck . Could it be loose wires or possibly a faulty vacuum hose??
GP1138
Oh, ok. You're hearing a suck sound? That indicates vacuum to me. Are you having problems changing where air is going?
fergup
Nope Heat /ac /defrost/ vents /floor/ etc etc all work great.
GP1138
Hmm. Maybe some wiring is shorting out somewhere. I'll let others chime in, because I haven't had much experience servicing the A/C system. Sorry!

Hey, I was just joking, didn't mean to offend you. Usually AC compressors make clicking sound when low on freon. Try and run the car at normal operating temp with the AC off, full heat and no defrost(make the air come out of the dash vents. In this case you shouldn't have the clicking. Then move the air to defrost(AC compressor works on defrost to help dry out the air) and if it starts clicking, it's probably low on freon. Shoot a can of AC recharge from the local parts store and it should stop.
fergup
No harm. Perhaps I was not clear though. I do not know what happens with the AC on as I have not used the AC. I can see though. Again though,, this sound happens as soon as I turn the HEATER on..
