Contrary to what alldata says, partsamerica lists the 4T60E as 93 and up on the 3800, 92 and up for the 3.4, and 93 and up for the 3.1.

I believe in 91, only the top end cars got the 4T60E.

i thought regals got a 4t60hd?

Dont think so. None of the other 3800 cars got the 4T60HD.

The HD was more for the Cadillac 4.9 and such.

Yeah. My Toro's 4T60E was still good at 120K miles. I beat the shit out of that car too.

No, not really. The only tranny fluid change I did in the 4 years I had it was when the fucking cooler line popped off and emptied the tranny. ( stranded me too )

Regardless of what some people here say, the 4T60E is not that bad a tranny, especially when you compare it to Ford's of the same era. :leaving:

don't say that. i'm stuck with a 60e until i can find the rest of the parts do do the 5 speed swap :bash:

if it was closer i probably would. i don't have too much extra cash to throw around renting a truck and dolly to tow it home with :bawl:

in '91 the 4T60E was used with the DOHC engines.

the biggest difference between the 440T4 and the 4t60E is in the Valve boddies, where as the 4T60/4T60-E depends on vacuum and or electronic connections to control the shifting cycles on the transmission, the 440T4 will use a manual detent (kickdown) cable attached to the throtle body of the engine.

or at least that's how I understood it.

I dont htink the 4T60's being bad tranies at all, alot of you guys have over 100k and 15 years into one and fords, especially taraus's dont last even 50k w/o isssues unless ur super easy and replace the fluid constantly, or dodges of that time, they wernt the best on automatics

Wow, a lot of misinformation in this thread.

Dave got some of it covered.

440T4: 1988-1990.

4T60 (Vacuum controlled; renamed 440T4): 1991-1992 3.1 and 3800.

4T60-E: 1991+ 3.4, 1993+ 3.1, 1993+ 3800

K aweosme, thanks guys!! And if you want a bigger picture of that...PM or e-mai laddress, I have a larger version but it's 2.5mb

Oh yeah, I was reading the second page. FWIW, the only engine that got the 4T60e-HD was the Series I L67 from 1992-1995, and then the Series II L67 in 1996.

Uhhh why? The 440T4 became the 4T60 in 1991. That's all.

The 440T4 was renamed the 4T60 in 1990. My 1990 window sticker says my car is equipped with a "4T60 with overdrive" transmission.

Also, the Turbo 3.1 got the 4T60-HD.

Strange. My GP one said "440T4". Then again, it was a VERY early 1990.

No W-body ever got the 4T60e-HD.

The 4T60e started in 1991 with the LQ1.
