cles Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 A friend of mine is considering buying a 88 Cutlass Supreme with a 2.8L. The transmission is questionable - slipping in drive (I think). Unfortunately, it needs some front end work before it can be driven. So if he buys it and it needs to be changed, do we have to use a tranny from a 2.8 or will transmissions from other engines/years fit?? Thanks Cam Quote
Robby1870 Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 2.8 and 3.1L have the same block so, I am pretty sure that these will work 125C/3T40 ( 3 spd auto, proabalby what came with it) 440T4/4T60 ( the 4 spd version of the 3T40) 4T60-E ( the electronically controlled version of the 4T60) Or there is one manual that will work: Getrag 282 There is another, I cant think of the name for it. Im pretty sure on that info, but let someone else on here verify it first. Robby Quote
soccrplayrgtp Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 or whatever you wanna call it...... Discontinued tranny cause GM paid Getrag a shit load of money to stop production and all parts for them.... Getrag 284 or hope my tranny doesnt fail 284 Quote
Robby1870 Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 all 88-89 autos are 4 spd When was the 3 spd used?? Just curious Robby Quote
Brian P Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 I know up through 1993 had them, (up to 94 on lumina) I think they brought them into the w-bodies in '90, the same time the cutlass/GP had the 4 cylinder available. Quote
soccrplayrgtp Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 yeah and the 3.1L til 93 being the last year for the GP's before their makeover..then they got the 4t60-e Quote
