sonyman87 Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 well i have been using mobil 1 for many thens of thousands of miles now and i have been going through about 7 quarts of oil between changes. 6quarts to fill after a 20 min drain. and 1 quart added at 2500 miles to make it to 3000.( = 7 quarts for those who cant count) oil still looks good at this time. i always figred i was burning the oil which is no biggin. highmilage motors do. well.. after washing the garage floor from doing a water pump i parked the car in there overnight for a few days and to my amazement there was damn clean oil on the ground. not a few drops but a small puddle. this is odd b/c it dosnt leak out at a fast rate and the motor dosnt have to be running for this to happen.. it just drips out! WTF! the oil plug isnt leaking. i dont think the new oil switch sensor is leaking. where else could this crap be leaking from when the car is off for long periods of time? the oil pump 0-ring is dry. and the valley plate was cleaned and resealed when i resealed the 0-ring. ohh the oil is in a general locatoin between the oilpan and where the oil filter is.. but there is so much deposit from oilchanges its hard to tell. ideas??? chadz34 Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 So, you really aren't burning oil? How many miles are on your car now? Quote
5speedz34 Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 The 3.4's suck oil down between changes it's something with the PCV system. About the oil leak, mine leaks there too, probably rear main or oil pan. Get some of that blacklight finder shit. Quote

sonyman87 Posted October 24, 2005 Author Report Posted October 24, 2005 look at the front cam cover on the far left side http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/4/web/436000-436999/436966_18_full.jpg now look at the same valve cover with a breather installed. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/4/web/436000-436999/436966_61_full.jpg i basicly ripped out both vacume lines and sealed off the intake with a new pipe. i put breathers on both front and rear valve covers. also a note. the spash plate on the rear valve cover was swinging freely with 1 of the 2 hold down points attached. i fixed that by repressing the loose down point and resecuring the exisitng one. chadz34 Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 My Lumina leaks a few drops here and there nothing major, but don't all 3.4's leak a little bit? When my mom bought the Lumina it was put on an oil test thing the GM dealerships do to make sure there's nothing wrong. Quote

And it doesn't put any excess oil in the engine bay? I would do that except since the 3.4 uses so much oil through the PCV, I want to make a catch can and have it go back to the oil pan. Quote
digitaloutsider Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 No, but believe me, you have to clean that filter at least every month or so. Quote
sonyman87 Posted October 24, 2005 Author Report Posted October 24, 2005 No, but believe me, you have to clean that filter at least every month or so. mine still look damn clean for what they are. like i said before there are splash guards on those things so it dosnt loose any oil out of them. never been an issue befor. digitaloutsider Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 I'm very sure I'm not losing oil out of mine. Like I said, it gets full of it and you have to clean it, but that's the only problem I've had. Quote
