sdwhite
Hello all- Working on a '95 Cutlass Supreme w/3.1. Got the Lower Intake off. Gonna take it to a shop and have it dipped and cleaned and made all purdy (along w/valve covers & plenum). One of the fuel injectors came off with the fuel rail when I pried it off. Do I need to replace those little metal clips? It doesn't seem like they do anything... Is there a safe method of pulling the other 5 injectors out of the lower intake? How should I go about re-installing them after the cleaning? Thanks for the help.
birdman
just wiggle them out i belive. when you install them it helps to put a little oil on the o-rings if they dont want to pop in the rail.
sdwhite
Don't know about them metal clips, eh? They seem pretty superficial.
manitcor
defintly keep the metal clips, they are pretty easy to bend back into shape and reinstall they are there to make sure the injector doesnt pop out of the rail and that you have a tight seal into the rail. without them they may leak
sdwhite
Oh. So they ARE important. They've been pulled off twice and I broke one or two pulling them off again. Is this something that can be found at any parts store?
gp90se
best bet is the junkyard, I don't remember autozone carrying the clips. I cant stress it enough, replace the o-rings, there cheap and keep ya car from going up in flames.
DaveFromColorado
I'm fairly certan you can get the injector retaining clips from about any parts store. as for reinstalling the injectors, you'll want to get new o-rings (extremely inexpensive) and use a little "Sil-Glide" on those o-rings and they should just slide into place nice and smoothly, be careful when installing them, as you don't want to rip an injector o-ring ... --Dave. sdwhite
You can NOT get the fuel rail to injector clips. Went to two parts stores AND GM... They're considered part of the fuel injector and are only available with the purchase of one. It is important to REMOVE FUEL INJECTORS WITH THE FUEL RAIL. This is what the tech at GM says. He said that's what the clips are for! And, he said, after it's all back together and bolted down that the clips are not really necessary to keep the injector from "popping off"... Only way to get new clips is to bend them off of an old fuel rail. Well...bending them off mine is what killed them. Stupid GM.

pwmin
mine dont even need to come off, you just squeeze the connector and it comes off.
Kaline
AutoZone sells the fuel injector clips new for about $2 each. I'm going to be replacing my injectors soon (at least one is bad), so I'll pick up some spares incase I break one.
Intlcutlass
I have never had a problem with those either..... They are not supposed to be pryed off, you slide them off (you will see a groove they slide in and out of).
rudefyet
i was able to bend mine back into shape
