I don't know if this has been mentioned but aren't AC Delco Rapid Fires a platinum plug?

I couldn't even buy them around here (could order them) places around here just have ACD plat or regular in stock.

Alright, I don't know much about plugs but I'd like to make a few statements & then ask a question.

I don't know how Bosch plugs do in a W only beacuse of how much negative feedback on them I saw here I never installed them. My dad puts Bosch Platinum plugs in his SHO, my sisters Golf, and my moms Outback. In the two 4 bangers, you could notice a difference in pickup and in gas mileage. They haven't needed to be replaced, and they were both done over a year ago. So that being said I don't think they're bad plugs, they just might not play well with our cars I guess.

Now, I'm planning on replacing the plugs in my cutlass because they're a little over 2 years old and it's been about 40-45,000 miles since they were put in. What are the best AC Delco plugs I can buy that will play well in my cutlass?!? I don't have anything to rotate my engine forward to get at the back plugs now that I don't live with my parents anywmore. So, that means I'm gonna have to pay a dealer to do this I guess... :(

so you're saying if I remove the alt Shawn that I should be able to get at the rear plugs? I dunno...I couldn't get to them before with the puller b/c of space behind the engine and the firewall. I had to have my dad help me pull the engine forward to get in there and pull them.

Shawn? My name is John.

Take the dogbones off, put the car in neutral and you should have no problem pulling the engine forward. I find if you put something long and not likely to break in the hole below where the left dogbone mounts, it makes it easier to pull forward, but if you remove the alt, you may not need to pull the engine forward at all.

If your e-brake works, you don't need ANYTHING to rotate the engine forwards. Just undo the top motor mounts, put the e-brake on, turn on the car and put it in reverse. With the car running and in reverse, go to the engine and put a bolt through the dogbone mount (you might have to give it some throttle to make the engine move slightly more). Very easy and doesn't require much physical work! But your e-brake must work 100% or you risk running yourself down! (putting bricks in front the tires might be a good idea too).

I might be wrong about the reverse, it might actually be drive but you'll figure it out.

As for plugs, I just replaced the plugs which were in the car when I bought it (regular AC Delco) with regular cheap AC Delcos. The old plugs looked good, I could have just cleaned them up and reused them!

Ok, in every car I have ever owned, when I replaced the plugs, i went with bosch double platinums. Never had a problem with them in the iron duke, the 5.0 F150, and now my LQ1. Althought, im switching back to AC delco plugs here soon though to try em out with the turbo.

any autolite plug ive tried in any gm vehicle has sucked ass. some L67 owners swear by them, but i've never had any luck with them.

I've got autolites in my L67 now, no issues. My brother runs some standard resistor Autolites in his mustang that has ran 11.6's @ 117.XXmph....so I've came to the conclusion that they work alright for me.

Only plugs that go in my LQ-1s are AC Rapid Fire 8's.

They sure do last a looooooong time. I've had family that had crappy running GM cars (3.1s, 2.8s) with Bosch plugs in them, when changed to AC Delcos they ran great!

Platinum is a very hard material so I could see where a double coat of it would make sense for longevity.

Just giving my .02 worth.

i never said anything about autolites in fords. no problems there, but from personal and longstanding professional experience of others close to me (my father who was a gm tech for over 30 years and his partner and expert electrical employee), autolites dont do well in gm's.
