Replacing '88-'94 Dogbones with '95-'99?

Is there any reason why I could not replace my regular gen-1 style dogbones on my 3100 with the style used on the Gen 1.5 Lumina/Monte Carlo?

I look at this picture and it appears that all the brakets are the same width and the bolt holes are in the same place.

I believe this type of dogbone to be more durable and also provide better engine power transfer without vibration due to the smaller bushings.

I would think this would also be backwards compatible to 2.8/3.1 MPFI cars if it works on my 3100 since I have a dogbone from a 2.8 MPFI car on mine now.

If you wanted to, you can. Besides the actual dogbones, the only other thing you need are those brackets. So just transfer the brackets and dogbones from one of the cars to yours, and your set.

Yeah...they would have to fit as the Gen 1.5 cars are the same as the gen 1's from the wiper cowl forward

Now i just wish i could get a free 3800 Series II with a $10 set of motor mounts!

yes all you need to do is change the brackets, and switch to the newer style dogbone. when i got my FFP dogbones, i had to switch to the 94 style brackets, so that the dogbones would fit.

cutty, How do you like those FFP dogbones?

i like them alot, SO much better than my stock ones. my stock ones were so bad that whenever you shifted from park to reverse or drive. the engine would smack the firewall. and do so vibrate a little at first, and they help a little with faster acceleration.

i love them!!

It fits on all the 3.1 and early 3100s. The one thru nut n' bolt for the engine side of either mount is the same. On the forward side it bolts to the radiator support at only 3 points instead of 4, but the top 2 holes are the same, and the third already exist and you only need to force the bolt to thread the existing hole. The changeover seems to be mid 1995. Go rock a few cars at the J/Y and adopt the best two you find. cheap but OEM first!
