CutlassSL91 Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 Well, I had my dual magnaflow exhaust put on today, and it's great! Very nice and smooth, no rasp or anything. The only thing that i don't like is the excessive new noise in the cabin. So would a resonator take care of this? Quote
Kalgorn Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 What kind of noise? Like a drone when you're cruising? If so, a resonator might fix your problem. Quote
TeeJay3800 Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 Higher noise in the cabin is something you'll always have with a louder, performance muffler. A resonator will help that a lot, usually. Do you have the muffles mounted in the factory location? Quote
CutlassSL91 Posted October 19, 2005 Author Report Posted October 19, 2005 What kind of noise? Like a drone when you're cruising? yes, there is that deep bass sound that is a bit annoying, especially around the 1500-2300 RPM range. Do you have the muffles mounted in the factory location? well, there a little lower than facory (they don't have the low hanger look at all). I just want the cabin to still be nice and comfortable. So you say a resonator would make a pretty big difference? How about dynomat? Quote
Kalgorn Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 Dynomat isn't worth your time. And it's expensive as fuck. Just go with a resonator. That should solve your problem. On the off chance that it doesn't, go with e-dead (I think that's what it is) instead of dynomat. I can't remember who swears by it but at least one person on here will testify to it. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 What engine do you have? Any sound clips? Quote
CutlassSL91 Posted October 19, 2005 Author Report Posted October 19, 2005 I have the 3.1 MPFI V6. I don't have a sound recorder unfortunatley. Which resonator seems to work the best, quiet is good for me. The main purpose of the magnaflows was to let the engine flow better, not to be loud, so a quiet resonator is great. But other than that the magnaflows are great! Quote
CutlassSL91 Posted October 20, 2005 Author Report Posted October 20, 2005 well, after driving around, i've decided that its the deep bass sound that i don't like, especially while at the beginning of a new gear. The drone while cruising is also bad. Will a resonator remove the deep bass and the droning? Quote
Kalgorn Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 It will help if not remove it completely. Quote
CutlassSL91 Posted October 20, 2005 Author Report Posted October 20, 2005 It will help if not remove it completely. Awesome! Any reccomendations? Quote
TeeJay3800 Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 I've found Magnaflows in general to produce a lot of interior drone. Flowmaster has models specifically designed to have low interior noise levels. The 50-series Delta Flow, for example. Since you just spent money on Magnaflows and probably won't want to switch, I would definitely add a resonator. Even a glasspack like a Cherry Bomb will help get rid of the drone. Quote
CutlassSL91 Posted October 21, 2005 Author Report Posted October 21, 2005 will a resonator do anything to the sound from the outside? Because it gets rid of the low bas frequency (right?) that causes the drone, will it do the same to the outside (which is fine with me) ? Quote
sonyman87 Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 Dont put a resonator in but a glasspack. or basicly another magnaflow inline. it will help with your noise Quote

CutlassSL91 Posted October 23, 2005 Author Report Posted October 23, 2005 How about this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-25-Vibrant-Resonator-Muffler-304-SS-Polished-12_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33636QQitemZ8007825914QQrdZ1 Quote
