Bucking!!! UPDATE!!!!

Well, some of you know I bought back my 88 Cutlass and I've been fixing it for the past week, pretty much getting it ready for winter.

The orginal problem was it would buck past 2k so I put a ICM, coils, plugs and wires and that took care of the problem, or so I thought. It doesn't buck bad now, but occasionally while climbing the revs it stutters or just completely falls on its face. I plan on changing the fuel filter soon, but what do you guys think it could be? The 2 rear plug wires looked like they where the same length, so I was kinda not sure on if that was the problem but I think it would do it all the time not just occasionally.

For the low oil pressure, my oil pressure drops down to 1 bar above low(digital dash), when warm. What do you other 2.8 guys get? The sender looks new, but I'll probably replace that. But if that's not it you guys think its the oil pump?

Now for the high idle, the way this car idles is pretty loopy it's kinda everywhere. I'm thinking it could use a TPS and a IAC. I cleaned those out this weekend but I still want to replace them. I don't think it has a vacuum leak but who knows.

Thanks, sorry about the long post.

Just got off the phone with a drunk Chris and he thinks it's intake gaskets.

Yep, thats pretty much what I said. And that i'm fairly drunk. On a tuesday. With classes and work all day tomorrow.

You absolutely sure the crank sensor is good?

No I haven't checked that but I've always thought that just gives you a no start/no spark type problem.

My friend thinks its the TPS.

My 2.8 usually gets one bar above Low Oil pressure when its warm at idle. Its done that since we bought the car in 1994, and no oil related engine problems in 11 years.

Well, heres an update:

I've been driving the car the past few days, and I decided that I would drive it to school today.

The car doesn't really do this till it get's warm. But otherwise it'll buck/loose all power in 3rd and 4th gear at about 2500-3500k. It's so bad I either have to downshift or just pull over and let it get it's balls back.

Heres the history:

The car sat for a year, and I bought it drove it for an hour and it sat for another year. Kevin bought it and drove it, so 2 tanks of old gas make me think its the fuel filter.

When I got it the fucker was missing above 2k all the time bad enough that it couldn't be driven at all. I changed the ICM and 3 coils with some from a junkyard set. So unless those are bad to, which would be really suprising. I kinda doubt this is a problem.

Personally I think it's fuel related something like fuel injection pulse or maybe even fuel pump.

Some people have told me it could be TPS, IAC, or MAF.

I know the MAF on these cars suck, and eventually I plan on swapping it over to a MAP system out of a 89+.

But I don't want to replace all kinds of parts right now. I'm going to change the fuel filter and run some top engine cleaner through it.

Thanks Alot guys.

Have you tried pulling any codes yet Tony?

No I haven't but I'm sure it doesn't have anything stored.

I've come to conclusion it does it when it's hot and its more of a stutter than a bucking, sometimes I'll have no power.

I don't know I'm thinking maybe a sensor, I'm pretty sure the car has a vacuum leak.

UPDATE:

I found a vacuum line that was not hooked up, and I hooked up a vacuum gauge for it and took it for a drive.

With the gas depressed and crusing is reads anywhere from 0-5 and with the no gas just coasting(this is all in gear) it shoots up to 20.

A friend thinks its intake gaskets. What do you guys think?

UPDATE:

Well, I went to pull the codes to find there was no ses bulb :bash:

So I pulled the cluster out and replaced the bulb and its throwing a 43 and 45 which is the knock sensor and 02. So I think the knock sensor is bad and I'm going to replace that tommorow.

Get a connector from a junkyard and splice it. That'd definitely fix your bogging, PCM pulls timing if there's no knock sensor. My old Lumi was a D-O-G with no knock sensor hooked up. Just like yours, the connector was just GONE, no sign of it.
