IBuiltMine-o1oo
im going to lower my compression on my 3100 from 9.5 to 8.5. im leaving it an auto, what turbo should i start shopping for? is there a car out there i can get one off of? how will i mount a non TGP turbo to the TGP manifolds? Thanks!
Guest TurboSedan
if you are going to be using TGP exhaust manifolds then you can use the TGP crossover pipe...but that thing only has a T25 flange, so you'd have to modify it. i think a smaller T3/T04E hybrid would be nice....not that i have looked into compressor maps or anything. just my opinion - i wouldn't worry too much about lowering the compression. IBuiltMine-o1oo
i was thinking a t3/t4 also, because they are readilly available because of the ricers wanting them, but how do i get a t3 mounting flange to work on my car? I guess thats where im hung up? also, do i HAVE to use a TGP manifold? Does that bck one come farther around the back of the engine to the turbo then a NA engines rear manifold does? Guest TurboSedan
yes it does. you cannot use a NA rear exhaust manifold with the TGP crossover pipe because they are slightly different length. not really sure about the rear 3100 exhaust manifold but i seriously doubt it would work either. you could always build a crossover pipe from scratch that would fit with your existing rear exhaust manifold, but then you'd have to somehow block the dump off. the best thing to do would be to have a nice set of headers made, then have a turbo crossover pipe made to fit them. but that's money. i'm not sure how you'd go about getting a T3 flange on the TGP crossover pipe. i'd just take the turbocharger & TGP crossover pipe to a reputable exhaust shop along with the whole car so they could fit everything together. they could probably chop off the short outlet section and the T25 flange then put a bigger T3 sized outlet section on and have them weld a T3 flange onto that. i know ATP sells some nice 1/2" thick T3 flanges that are already drilled/tapped. of course, i would have the flex bellows replaced at the same time and you might want to have a external wastegate flange welded onto the crossover pipe somewhere unless you're going with a turbo with an internal wastegate. you'd also have to fab up some tipe of turbo support bracket so the turbocharger isn't hanging off the crossover pipe (that would damage the flex bellows). for the downpipe i would look into the V-band adapters & modular V-band pipe that ATP has. IBuiltMine-o1oo
custom headers. i can make those. i just didnt know where to get the flanges. atp sounds like the place to get all the stuff i need! thanks man!
IBuiltMine-o1oo
oh...a t3 exahst side isnt too small for the 3100 is it? I alwasy thought they did the hybrid basase the little 4 bangers have a hard time spooling a complete t4? but i guess a t3 is still a little bigger then what a TGP somes with stock, so its all good.... look at this kit...it has EVERYTHING....the turbo, BOV external waste gate, intercooler downpipe, hose, i could cut the flange off of the manifold...for 699 100 bucks to ship, OBO...theres even a cheaper one out there. Goddamn i fi had a little rice grinder id have this on it in a heartbeat....!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/INTEGRA-CIVIC-B-SERIES-T3-T4-Turbo-Kit-W-INTERCOOLER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33742QQitemZ8005155390QQrdZ1
sonyman87
you dont have to lower your compresson you can just use less boost.
z34_nut
Reason why the TGP turbo is so small...low turbo lag.
gp90se
you dont have to lower your compresson you can just use less boost. less compression + more boost = more power top end more compression + less boost = better throttle responce down low
IBuiltMine-o1oo
im leaving it on the auto, so i want to have a lot of boost up top

z34_nut
If Tim can do it (even tho his tranny is already fubared) then it shows its possable. Its not the most efficient, but eh, what can you do?
IBuiltMine-o1oo
yuo mean why i want to keep it auto, or why i wast a bigger turbo? Im going to change the chain gearing in my tranny so its taller geared, i dont want to smoke my tires, i want 2nd gear rollon power at 65mph... you know what im getting at now? i just want it smooth...im going to even put a muffler on my BOV so noone can hear it. Rocketman
Just get a diverter/recirc valve then...no sense in buying a BOV if you dont want to hear it. A dv valve dumps the air back into the intake before the turbo so its silent. They even make dv kits for some popular BOV's like the HKS SSQV.
