kadeas Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 I have a '95 GP with a 3100. The coolant is going somewhere but I cannot see it coming out anywhere. I checked the oil level, it's a bit overfull now. Is the coolant going into the oil? Is this a head gasket gone bad? The car still runs fine btw. Thanks for the help in advance! Quote
1990lumina Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 Take off your rad cap and run the car in park at idle and watch the level of the coolant, is there any bubbles? Bubbles are not a good sign usually. However, if you just start the car up and drive somehwere and shut it off right away, could be you are losing some coolant through the water pump as well?? Quote
Stekman Posted October 4, 2005 Report Posted October 4, 2005 Does your oil have a slight milk-shake or chocolate milk appearance to it? Quote
Spoon Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 If you want to take the Fear Factor approach, one way to check if you have coolant in your oil is to taste the oil, it will taste sweet if there is. A way to see if its buring coolant is to look for white exhaust or have someone rev. the car while you smell the exhaust, it will smell or even taste sweet. I'm not not crazy, I've been tested. Quote
kadeas Posted October 8, 2005 Author Report Posted October 8, 2005 Ok, there is a light "Milkshake" look to the coolant that's in the overflow bottle, and there is green coolant on the bottom of the oil cap. That could only be from a blown head gasket, or a cracked head right? Quote
94CutlassSLCoupe Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 its either a Lower Intake gasket or a head gasket. It would be easy to determine which one upon teardown Quote

GP1138 Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 Does the head gasket repair in a bottle work? If by work, you mean "postpone the problem", then yes, it does. Quote
94CutlassSLCoupe Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 yeah and it cloggs up your water passages and your heater core and your radiator...and is fucking impossible to get out of there. Fix it the right way now...its cheaper in the end Quote
