shift cable adjustment

I have a 1992 Z34 with a floor shifter. when I put my motor back in and hooked up my shift cable to the transaxle lever, all the gears were messed up. Overdrive on the shifter bacame neutral on the transaxle lever, and when I place the shifter into park, the transaxle lever was somewhere between park and reverse so the car will not start in park. The car will only start if I shift the shifter into overdrive. The shift cable seems a little bit short because it will not have enough length to push the transaxle lever into park position. It could be the way I feed the shift cable or something? I literally have to reach down, grab a hold of the transaxle lever and force it into park.

where is the best place to adjust the shift cable and how do I do it? there must be a locking tab of some type so that I can adjust the cable and lock it into position.

I think i might have a similar problem, sometimes i go to start my car and it wont start. This is because it thinks its in reverse and not park. A while ago the reverse lights would stay on when i had the car parked. I took my lights out so it would not drain my battery. I still have not found a way to fix this. I posted on here before and they said it was the TPS, This is too hard to get to, and even if i did i dont know what to adjust. Why cant i just adjust it from the floor shifter. Eventually i realized if i pounded the shifter forward into park then the car would start. One time i forgot to do this and sat in my car for an hour, it also pisses me off when my remote start will not work because of this. Please hook up an answer. I will be doing the front springs soon, so i would like to fix this while the strut towers are out.

I also remember someone asking why when they are driving along and then give it a little more throttle the car would jolt into a lower gear. They said this was the TPS as well.

You need to adjust the Shift position cable. in my repair manual i remember reading about it, im not sure how to do it as i dont really remember. but pick up a chiltons, or you can check out te automotiveforums.com and ask Jeffcoslacker or Tblake or one of them and they will tell you how to do it :) (they are in the lumina section) but what they tell you should be universal on the 4t60 and 3t40. :bash:
