gp90se
dirty oil isnt a bad thing, that means the oil is doing its job by keeping the motor clean. If you want to spend a little extra cash to keep the oil looking cleaner longer, Go have the engine reverse cleaned with a machine, it sends a cleaner backwards thru the motor and does a damn good job cleaning it out. I might end up doing that. I just hate spending so much on Mobil 1 then after each oil change my oil is soo damn dirty. But, like you said, it does it's job. A good cleaning would probably help alot. That, and new spark plugs too.
manitcor
what kind of filters are you using, any of the good syns combined with a high quality filter shouldnt be too dirty at 3-5k dark amber yes, black or brownish no. You can also do a can of GM Top Engine Cleaner or Sea Foam, highly reccomend doing that every 50k or so or anytime you do new topend gaskets (LIM or heads)
Dannymik
I use Delco filters and have the same issue as Slick...I change my Mobil1 about every 4K. So are Delco filters junk or just not nearly as good as the top end ones?
manitcor
dunno, Ive never used a regular delco filter since I went to the good synthetics, as soon as I upgraded to using RP or AMSO all the time I also started using either K&N or AMSOil filters
Grand Moff Joseph
so what exactly is this 'reverse cleaning' you speak of? How much does it cost, and where could one go to have it done?
gp90se
I think some jiffy screws do it, its a machine that hooks up to the oil plug and sends fluid up thru the oil cap with a cleaner. supposed 2 work damn good and run ya about $
