well, after reading this post I'm curious to see the results when you get her checked out...until then check every connection possible...also check all the wiring to make sure its all in tact and not torn anywhere.

Thats the original reason why I changed up my engine harness about 1 year ago, due to it being hacked to hell.

Wire in the 95+ alt and I'm sure it'll take care of you problems.

is that a CS130D?

Brian P was going on about how they're junk too. would it really make a difference?

Yup, that is the CS130D...'94 DOHC's should have it also...my 3100 does. the cs130d seems to be a better alternator...my old blazer had 132k on it and the alternator had never been replaced.

Nope, just previous owners.

That seriously must be nice. I'm still the best at STOCK location though!

Where did you relocate it to and make a set of instructions for the FAQ section!

all I did was shove it where the AC compressor went, made a mounting bracket (which I removed again cauz it was weak) and put a spacer behind the alternator pully to line up the belt. If I ever do make a new bracket that will hold up, I will take pics and do an offical write up.

right now it only has 1 bolt holding it in place. I will fab up a bracket eventually to hold the alternator to the block and not just the bracket mounting plate.

I had thought of doing this awhile back, but then decided I would wait until my AC finally went, then do it. And so far, my AC doesn't leak, and blows damn cold air.

my AC lines we fucked when I was yanking my 3.1 and the engine swung and broke the sensor clean off the line. I figured Id replace the line....untill I accidently tossed the compressor for the 3.4. It fits in there nicely, but the pullys gotta come out about 1/8"

water won't bother the alternator itself... the regulator and such should all be sealed and everything...

I've had my ALT completely submerged (along with almost half my car...) and after it had a chance to dry out, it charged better than it ever did before

there's a wire somewhere messing it up... granted, my stereo is only 600W or so, but I don't turn it down at stop lights or anything like that...

I can't wait for my AC to die!

I'll either move my ALT there, or, if I don't get a turbo for the car, stick in a procharger system....

Ok, got the alt. back, heres what was wrong with it:

The brushes were bad and the bearings were bad.

These are things that he fixed/beefed up:

Replaced the plastic cooling fins with metal fins

Welded the diodeds in

There was a missing cover plate on the back bearings, where the pos. connector is. He couldn't find one the correct size, so he made a plate out of a beer bottle cap.

He took it all apart too and cleaned the inside of it. Aparantly it was pretty dirty on the inside of the alt. as well. He also cleaned the casing and pulley up to make them look like new condition.

All for $75.

UPDATE:

Putting in the new alt tomorrow. I am also going to be running new pos. lines as well. I already have replaced the line from the battery to the aux. post, and my god what a difference it made with the accessories!!!

I'm also going to clean up my engine bay, put some new spark plugs in (AC Delco Rapidfires, just picked them up actually).

Next weekend, clean and paint my brake calipers to prevent them from being nasty. And, if i get my POR-15 in, do a write-up with that.

it sounds like a chain of bunk alternators to me, but what do i know i changed the z34s alternator almost 2 years ago now, and 40,000 or so miles later its stillgoing strong
