TeeJay3800 Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 the catera is an FWD impalla....it even has the 3.5 The Catera never got the 3.5. It was only used in the Intrigue and Aurora. Quote
Bossman429 Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Ahhhhhh..... I'm glad this thread got straightned out before I got here. Seemed to be a lot of confusion as to what all these designations for vehicles are. I think the Catera has a greek designation in the inner workings of GM, much like the New Cobalt/Saturn ION is a "delta" platform. If you aren't sure what the body designation is just look for the car on Ebay, and read the 4th letter off of the VIN. Catera = V body Malibu = N body Cimmaron = J body ( A cavy with LEATHER! My great grandparent's were dumb enough to buy one back in the day. I was like 8, so I wasn't one to convince them otherwise.) Quote
IBuiltMine-o1oo Posted September 26, 2005 Author Report Posted September 26, 2005 damn.... ive built a couple engines in my life, and i m leaning twords the 3.4 dohc. Unless there isnt a strong enough tranny choice. Then maybe the 3.8 SC, but thats a definate buick engine...id like to stay with a smaller one. i ahve a friend in Casper and his dad has a literal FWD buick junkyard.....i might try to get a good doaner outa him. last time i talked to him he wanted me to take one for free cause his neighbors are hassling him. Ok...will the 3.4 DOHC bolt to the HD 3.8 SC tranny? i want this car to be AUTO...no 5 speed......sorry. Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 Manning's here in town has a grey Lumina Z34 that still has the 3.4 DOHC engine, and last time i was at Mr. R's in Buffalo they had a Monte Carlo Z34 that still had the 3.4 DOHC engine. not sure on the condition of the engines though. stockgp Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 the beretta never came with a 3.4 tdc? i've seen a few on the interweb, i don't know if they were swaps or not, though Quote
fastbird232 Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 the beretta never came with a 3.4 tdc? Nicht. Quote
Bossman429 Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 the beretta never came with a 3.4 tdc? i've seen a few on the interweb, i don't know if they were swaps or not, though I'd have to see proof of that. The 3400 pushrod engine will fit in a Beretta, but the 3.4 TDC is a VERY wide motor. I swear I've seen measurements vs. a Beretta engine compartment, and it just won't fit. Unless James (400sbc something) is putting one in the back seat of a Beretta, I'm pretty sure they don't fit. Quote
stockgp Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 hm. i'll have to look around and see if i can find pics again. i could always be wrong. Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 what engine is in the Catera anyway? cuz i just walked one pretty good EDIT: nevermind, i clicked the link. i would have thought it woulda done better that it did Quote
TeeJay3800 Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 opel 3.0L dohc Yep, 200 HP and 200 lb-ft TQ. Quote
pwmin Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 is it a dohc? i said that but i thought about it an couldnt find out if it was pushrod or dohc, but being a european car, i would assume it would be dohc. Quote
pwmin Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 no wonder you walked it; it's got less power than a 3.4x and weighs a lot more than a w Quote
TeeJay3800 Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 Yeah, its DOHC, and its also a lot of car for that motor. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 Hmm.. RWD V6 Caddy... sounds kinda cool. Any potential for those engines? Quote
ToroToro Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 I think there are quite a few performance parts, since the motor is big in Germany and Australia. And from what I hear, the actual motor is solid, but it has some electrical gremlins, as well as the dreaded timing belt. Prices for the parts on that car are outragous too...175.00 dollar plug wires. Quote
93CutlassSupreme Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 Cadillac advertised the car as a BMW 3-series beater so that might give some insight on it's performance Quote
ZoomZoomFan Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 the beretta never came with a 3.4 tdc? I WISH! The 3400 has been swapped into numerous Berettas that originally came with the 3100 V6. It would be nice to see how a 3.4 Retta drove though. Quote
NOHC_WBody Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 Hmm.. RWD V6 Caddy... sounds kinda cool. Any potential for those engines? I'm thinking Ellis Juan/Sex swap myself. It shares a lot of chassis & suspension architecture with the current GTO sold here in the 'states. Cadillac advertised the car as a BMW 3-series beater so that might give some insight on it's performance A claim that it never lived up to, of course. Maybe GM meant a "beater" for tour BMW 3 series?
