john99gtp Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 Alo, im in the process of washing my car, and i want to remove the pinstripes. the right rear quarter panel was mad easy to remove the stripes, but the others are not being so co-operative. what is the best tricks/tips to removing the pinstripes? its on the TGP, for those that havent seen it the stripes in the grooves thanks john Quote
gtped Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 John when i removed mine i used a heat gun if you don't have access to one you could use a hair drier. btw nice looking car Quote
Givemebreak Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 I would be very careful using a heat gun on the plastic panels.... Quote
gtped Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 YES not to hot keep it away from the bumper cover Quote
Turbo231 Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 What to use: 3M Pinstripe remover....no kidding, they make this stuff. 3M Adhesive remover....to remove the residue Yes, it may be able to be done cheaper, but it won't be easier and this is how it is done professionally. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 A hair dryer works great. Heatgun would be good too just don't keep it near plastic for long... After use some Goo-gone, maybe claybar it too. Quote
john99gtp Posted September 21, 2005 Author Report Posted September 21, 2005 btw nice looking car thanks, you missed it at the meet on saturday and i shall look for that pinstripe remover. if all else fails, ill whip out the hair dryer, lol. my car looks funny, the right rear has no stripes, but the rest of the car does no way in hell im driving it like that tomorrow Quote
LukeZ34 Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 Try the hair dryer first... Seriously. The pinstripes are probably not that old so they should come off easily. Heat it up a little, and just pull, it'll come off easily. Use the pinstripe remover if the heat method doesn't work, or if the vinyl is really dry/cracking. It's good for cleaning up the left over adhesive if any is left behind. Quote
