Electric fans staying on!

Hey guys, i'm new here but have owned my 95 olds cutlass supreme SL for about 4 years. I went to turn the car off the other day and noticed that the fan on the driverside would not turn off. I even let it sit for about 5 minutes and still wouldnt shut off. I pulled the relay and it shut off. Put the relay back in and it stayed off. i tried starting the car again, and it did the same thing when i shut it off, the fan kept running. Now if i only have one relay in, doesnt matter which side, the fan wont stay on when i shut it off. But whenever i have both relays in, one fan will stay on. its really messed up and i cant seem to figure it out. for right now i'm only running with one relay in. anyone have any ideas? is there a short some where in the circuit? i tried putting a new relay in, but that didnt help.

No SES light, and the car doesnt really seem to be running hot, and it does it when the car is cold. it almost seems like there is another relay some where that isnt closing thats keeping the main fan raley kicked open...i gotta get into it and do some testing. Just seeing if anyone has had this problem..its about as weird of a problem as i've seen.

I thought the fan could stay on in the engine time were high enough. The ol' sticker-under-the-hood says the fans can come on at any time.. Don't know ehre you're from, but I assume the ambient temperature wasn't high enough at this time of the year.

I know OBD-II cars have this built in as a safety feature in case the engine is too hot even while the ignition is off. I don't know about OBD-I or OBD-1.5 cars. If OBD-I cars had it, that'd be sweet. I could emulate DHP on my Cutlass. :rockin:

Yes, the Fans will stay on if the motor is ran for a long time or its really hot and u turn it off, i know, my TGP fans constantly wanna stay on after a drive longer than 20 minutes, or if its been drivin hard, i let the sucker idle for 5 minutes and turned it off after a 4 hour drive at 85mph mostly the whole way and booooooy it left th ose fans on still for a good 10 minutes

TGP fans will do that, I'm pretty sure other first gens don't.

my Z never has.... the fans always shut off with the key (except when I forget to turn off the primary override...)

then again, one day, when I was doing 1/4 mile runs, my Z was creeping into the red zone (the warning light fades in! )

after that, I drove for like 300 feet and the car was at normal operating temp...
