OldSkoolGP
What was the earliest model year the 4T65-E transmission was available in the W-bodies? Not the HD version from the GTPs, just the regular one.
mfewtrail
1997 was the first year for the 4T65-E in a W-body(this was the HD version since it was in a GTP or GS though). I believe they started putting the non-HD's in Grand Prix GT's in 1998(not sure what the other cars got w/ the 3100's in them). Someone else that remembers this information for sure can chime in and correct this if I'm wrong...its' been a while since I read all of that. OldSkoolGP
Ok, I was kinda of hoping they came out sooner than that because I have a car I want to get that's a 95 and was hoping it would wor with OBD 1.5, but now I don't think it will. manitcor
no it wont, the ODB1.5 computer does not have the neccassary control to handle the t65, you can always upgrade to ODBII and get a t65 in there then, also it is possible to have a t60 built that is just as strong or even stronger than a stock t65. ZZP can do this for you for the same price as a t65 rebuild.
lakefxgp96
Old skool, If i had your setup, i would somehow convert to obd 2 and i would eyeballing the DHP powertuner because I am crazy. If you did that though, you could more easily get any 65-E to work in there, maybe even an HD with 3.69 gears! However it would probably be easier to call up ZZP and have their transmission contact work with you. The trannies are physically very similar and can share a lot of parts. you could get an HD differential tossed in there and maybe a different final drive if you wanted, and it would certainly be stronger than stock! Â BTW, 97 is the earliest year for the 65-E, however it was NOT used in the GP and Regal until 98. the 97 years had a weird 60-E and 60E-HD. Â Â I've seen 1997 based articles list that state the GTP was equipped with a 4T65-E transaxle for what it's worth. Also, Thrasher Engineering has info on their site stating that ALL L67 engines receieved the 4T65-E's.
digitaloutsider
Don't know where the hell you pulled that out of you ass, lakefxgp96. The L67 got the 4T65e-HD every single year EXCEPT for 1996 in the H-bodies. That was the one and only year when it was mated to the 4T60e-HD. OldSkoolGP
Well this wouldn't be going on a high horsepower car, so the need for a built up tranny isn't there. It's just after owning my 98 Lumina for almost a year now, I just love how it shifts, and it has the 4T65-E. I've had 60-Es before, and while they never have failed on me, I have heard of them failing. I could settle on a 60-E if I had to, but I would like to get it to shift as good as my 65-E does, I know soft shifts aren't necessarily good for a transmission, it's nice when it's just a regular daily driver.
