brianteel Posted September 20, 2005 Report Posted September 20, 2005 well i got the trans in today. i need to know how many splines are on the 282 trans for clutch hunting. also i knew there was a site that listed all the clutchs for gm with the plines but i cant stand to find it Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted September 20, 2005 Report Posted September 20, 2005 What are you putting that into? Quote
OldSkoolGP Posted September 20, 2005 Report Posted September 20, 2005 Oh that is sweet! I want to test drive one to see what the ratios are like. The guy to ask abouut how many splines there are would be topendgtp95 on ClubGP. He just got done mating a 282 to an L67 for his '90. I can't think of anyone else off hand that has a 282. Quote
pwmin Posted September 20, 2005 Report Posted September 20, 2005 wish i could help. you could go to the parts store and ask for the clutch tool for a 282-equipped car and count them. let us know how it turns out. that'll be super sweet. Quote
brianteel Posted September 20, 2005 Author Report Posted September 20, 2005 i am dumb i have one of those.....actualy i had the first L67 5spd GP i beat him to it. had it in the car then took it out of the car and now my 96 5spd l36 is forsale Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted September 20, 2005 Report Posted September 20, 2005 282 has 14 splines by my count. Quote
GrandPrixGTP95 Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 282 has 14 splines by my count. Just to confirm what he said....thats right. Quote
DaveFromColorado Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 you could always check http://www.centerforce.com they've got most clutch spline/shaft diameter sizes listed - you just have to know what year/model car it came out of. --Dave. Quote
chadz34 Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 What are the ratios for that trans? Quote

brianteel Posted September 22, 2005 Author Report Posted September 22, 2005 we are going to find out soon enough. i think a custom intermediate shaft will be needed. other then that it is going to be linkage to the trans. I am going to get it from my friends house tomorrow and make sure it bolts up then go from there. I think in the future once the 3900 motor is more availiable i am going to try and figure out how to bolt that into other cars. Quote
brianteel Posted September 22, 2005 Author Report Posted September 22, 2005 so i was looking on that site and the 3.4 DOHC clutch will owrk with the 3.1 pressure plate. i am going to have to try it. Quote
ShockTherapy Posted September 24, 2005 Report Posted September 24, 2005 sweet, i can't wait to see this ! Quote
brianteel Posted September 24, 2005 Author Report Posted September 24, 2005 for anyone interested what i am done this trans can be used with any FWD 5spd cars including the turbo and DOHC motors Quote
brianteel Posted September 24, 2005 Author Report Posted September 24, 2005 the trans itself i have no idea. there will be some parts on top of that to get it too work. i am hoping that i can get cost of these things down by making a bunch at once. there is still info i need to get first Quote
brianteel Posted September 25, 2005 Author Report Posted September 25, 2005 http://bcaudio.com/6%20spd/ there you go Quote
brianteel Posted September 25, 2005 Author Report Posted September 25, 2005 http://bcaudio.com/6%20spd/ there you go Quote
brianteel Posted September 25, 2005 Author Report Posted September 25, 2005 the shaft is going to be like the getrag 282 or 284...then use a standard axle Quote
Canada Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 Fram oil filters? Shame, shame. Oil pan leak. So I put the gear ratios for that 6 speed into the Excel file I have.....for the graph for MPH against HP. Compared to the factory 284 gearset... Quote
brianteel Posted September 26, 2005 Author Report Posted September 26, 2005 so the 6spd is slightly longer gears at the bottom? Quote
Canada Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Yeah....just look at the ratios... Getrag 284 1st...3.46 2nd...2.28 3rd...1.48 4th...1.09 5th...0.72 FDR...3.67 First: 3.77 Second: 2.04 Third: 1.32 Fourth: 0.95 Fifth: 0.76 Sixth: 0.62 Final drive: 3.55 Nearly every gear is longer or matches....plus it has a taller FDR. I assume you are swapping to a 6 speed for the sake of a 6 speed? Quote
