93GTP
I'm wondering if I can run higher than stock oil pressure by shimming or swapping out the pressure regulator spring in the oil pump? Or if it is even advisable to do that? I know I've seen the guys on Horsepower TV do it a few times with LS1's and other engines as well. Does anyone have any insight/experience/knowledge to share regarding this?
manitcor
what advatnage do you hope to gain by increasing the oil pressure?
94CutlassSLCoupe
i agree with manticor...higher pressure is only just that much more drag on the engine.
Dan94Z34
If you put a high pressure pump you may blow one or more of your gaskets out. They arn't designed to hold back the pressure the pump puts out. Found that out on a 350 I rebuilt. I put a high pressure pump in it and stock cork gaskets. About a week after I got it done, I blew the rear main out of the car. The rear main completly came out. Talk about a major oil leak! A buddy of mines dad rebuilds old school chevy v8's all the time. He just uses the stock oil pump. He says there is no reason to have a high pressure pump. Also with a high volume pump and a stock oil pan, you run the risk of sucking the pan dry. Air doesn't lube very well the last time I checked.
