They are functional just as the TGP ones are. They are their to help get heat out of the engine bay. Cold air in from the front... hot air out the vents.

thanx

i guess i have not seen a TGP in person so i did not realize they had them also.

guess it makes sense to keep things cool.

GTP's have them also, but they are smaller and the Z34's are too I believe.

No, only the GTP, Z34, and TGP had them.

The z34 louvers are fully functional, and can even be fully opened up for ultra efficiency. I believe of the three they offer the most functionality. - tom

Any of them can be opened up. The ones on the TGP are the largest of all three. These things are like over a foot long. If you look at my sig pic you can see they are almost half the length of the hood.

Then the ones I saw that had them, they must of put them on there.

I have seen two Lumina Euro's that had hoods off of Z34's. Looked pretty nice.

I remember looking at the vents on an STE and they looked difficult to open up. I dont disagree that they are huge, but when open, the z34 louvers are GAPING HOLES!!!! hehehe

I beg to differ. With the GP sedans, you could get the GT option, which included the 3.4L DOHC with the hood louvers. I've also seen them on the Lumina's with the 3.4L option, also factory.

are they difficult to add?

does it make it more difucult to keep the engine compartment clean?

the reason i ask is the yard i was at with Mac a couple weeks ago had a Z-34 hood i believe. was wondering if it would be worth the effort.

Very expensive to add, you need to devise some sort of support for them on non-lumina hoods.

Are you sure? Cuz its a Z34 specific hood....

well to set the Story Straight I know on the GP's

The hood louvers did come on both sedan and Coupes.

the STE turbos all have the long hood louvers. as found on the 89-90 TGP's and the 91 GTP's

The some 96 GT sedans with the 3.4L have hood louvers. but where the smaller "gay" looking ones found on the newer GTP's 94-96

Im almost positive that a coupe hood is the same as a sedan on the GP and lumina, so maybe they got ahold of one! The 3.4L Lumina 4 door next door to me doesnt have one I think!
