egr problem

i have a 96 cutlass with a 3.1L

i get a check engine light and when i run the code it comes up with egr so i took it off and had it checks at auto zone and did 3 tests and came back fine so i checked the passege way and was clean of carbon changed gasgets top and bottom and still have same code any help would be great thanks

When does the light come on, when you first start the car, or around 45, 50 when it kicks into OD? But more than likely its the #3 solnoid(sp?) on the EGR valve.

I take it this is a digital EGR?

acually it comes on as soon as i turn the key on .

it stays on when i start it

and yes it is electical

x2. If they didn't, it'll continue to trip the light until the car is good and satisfied that the problem is gone. On the other hand, AutoZone will NOT clear a code anymore. It's against their policy now or something. However, the 24hr AZ here will just give out the scanner come nighttime, and you can clear the code yourself 8)

Yep, reset your ECM. If it still there, pull it off again and make sure the passageway is clear of carbon, again. If you have to, take a coat hanger or a wire brush and shove it in there.

You suck, our 24 hour Autozone just went to 12 hour, and they'd never ever just give me the scanner.
