TheGreenMachine
Okay Once again having problems with my 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix Se with the 3.1 V6. When i turn on the car it idles rough and vibrtates bad sounds like the motor has a really aggressive cam but believe me it doesnt. then once i put it in gear i push on the gass and the car is sluggish and vibrates bad untill i get to 2500 rpms then its fine. any idea whats wrong and how i can fix it and o yea there is no check engine lights on and car has gas all that crap. Prospeeder
does it have really hard shifts? or a loud clunk with shifts, could be the motor mounts
TheGreenMachine
it does kick hard when it shifts but no noise doesnt sound like a problem but you never know. like when i floor it the car shifts and then like it lets down and the power kicks back in hard its a very fast process though not like the engine is having problems. and would that effect take off cause when i first got the car last week i could floor it and peel out now i floor it and it vibrates hard until i get to 2500. plus is there anyway to check motor mounts with out taking them out. Prospeeder
well, if theres excessive motor movement, it will cause the motor to vibrate and shake, and loss of power down low, as rpms rise, the motor smooths out and there isnt as much if any engine movment in comparison to low RPMs, and to check them, id say check the brushings on them, do a search, the motor mount problems have came up quite a bit
TheGreenMachine
ill check it out or have it checked out do you know of any bran that has upgraded ones
digitaloutsider
Sounds like ICM/Coilpacks to me.
Garrett Powered
combination of that and many others. that I dont know how the wires look on it wheres the pics? Are the plugs and wires new? you may want to wireloom them just in case. To check the motor mounts put it in drive with your foot on the brake then shift it in reverse. if the motor shakes around then they are blown. Â Stock airbox? do you have a clean filter? gp90se
coilpacks/ICM sounds about right, no chance its a vaccum leak though?
TheGreenMachine
Anyone know of a whole sale site where they sell icm's aside from ebay or if i go to a local car parts store would they have it
TheGreenMachine
Would a coilpack and icm from a 3.8 litre work thats the only one on ebay i can find
GP1138
That should work, but really the ICM/Coils off of any GM 60*V6 would work fine. I'd go to a junkyard, they'll be decently cheap there.
Garrett Powered
I would definately check the plugs before all that. not sying it is not the coil packs. they could be bad. I would just get those from the dealership though.
