94CutlassSLCoupe Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 When my dad drove home the new Quad 4 Cutlass, we found that it burnt a little over a quart of oil in 350 miles...the car has a new head and head gasket and runs like a raped ape (will destroy my 3100)...it looked as if the oil was dripping out of that oil seperator thing that is over the intake manifold. Is there any way to fix this? BTW: I started taking this thing apart and both the upper strut bolts broke...both rear calipers are siezed as is the driver's side parking brake cable (along with the front cable which is broken) Otherwise the car needs a little rust repair, an interior cleaning, some work to the driver's side power window, and a muffler. It drove really nice and my dad said it got 35mpg when he drove it home. Quote
DaveFromColorado Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 the oil commin' outta the sepperator is most likely because the rings are shot and you've got TONS of blowby - this would also explain the oil consumption. --Dave. Quote
mihela816 Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 Run a compression check, and if Dave's right, sadly the head needs to come off again. Quote
94CutlassSLCoupe Posted September 5, 2005 Author Report Posted September 5, 2005 it does not smoke out of the tail pipe AT ALL...if it was rings it would. I was thinking there was something about the oil seperator that could be messed up. Quote
DaveFromColorado Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 just because you aren't getting smoke outta the talepipe doesn't mean you don't have bad rings... smoking exhaust is usually more of a sign of worn valve guide seals anyhow. --Dave. Quote
jeremy Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 I am going to have to agree with Dave and guess that you have bad rings. Quote
