Guest Gp crazy Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 I have a co worker that puffed a 1997 3.8 seires 2 engine. Due to head or head gasket. Are they hard to replace them or is it easy to do? white smoke and what look's to be small amounts of coolant in oil. But not creamy white paste. I could get the car for free but I have three cars alredy & don't need a land yhat These day. I think it would be a nice car but if the motor is shot i do not want it! update) I went to look at the car today and IT does not turn over so I pulled the plugs out and every cyl in the frt had coolant but turned over Very Slow! Then She told me had driven it about 15 miles with over heating it so i guess it's a done deal i do not want the la saber 1997 tan color Quote
streetdreams Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 if its just a head gasket or intake gasket than it's possible if your prepared and competent. like wise if your gonna pull it out the yacht than it will be even easier on a stand imo. does it turn over? I mean is it seized? obviously stay away if it dont turn over man. If its for free man and it turns over just once I would say hell yeah take it off his hands pull the motor and set it on a stand or spare tire and now you got a nice lil project. either you sell the motor or put it in somthing of yours, either way you gotta admit its a pretty good opportunity if it turns over. I cant even count how many 3.8 heads are in the JY if it needed one. I wish someone would donate me a 3.8 even if I was broke or had my hands tied at the moment I could still tear it down and clean it up. b.t.w once you get the motor out you sell the carcass to the JY for 50 bucks and look! your already ahead lol Quote
DiscoStudd Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 What car is it in? I'm assuming it's an H-Body (Bonneville, LeSabre, Eighty-Eight) if you say it's a "yacht." L36's are a dime a dozen in the boneyards, and a 97 "H" should still "book" out fairly well, so why not take your buddy up on the offer? Screw replacing the heads, just grab up a complete motor (you shouldn't have to spend more than 5 or 6 hundred for it) and spend a weekend swapping it in. You'll be able to sell the car for 7 or 8 times what you paid for the motor, provided nothing else's wrong with it... Quote
