FastSE2DR Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 Well this was going on last winter but it was intermittent and i thought i figured out a way to get it to work without any problems...well that was true until about 2 months ago when i was on the highway and i felt my car rev up and i realized it kicked itself outta OD and into 3rd gear...wow thats awesome...nothin like 3100rpms at 70mph in a V6...well on the way home that same night i had OD again and it was all fine and dandy...so I am on my way out to NY to pick up my new project car and ive been driving for about 6hrs in a BADASS rain storm so prolly only been driving like 40-60 the whole way(maybe a little faster at times when it let up) but i had been kinda hard on slowing down and acc, or causing the TCC to unlock and lock again...well i lost OD again and had 3rd gear the rest of the 6hrs that day...and i though well maybe it just got hot and itll be cooled down and fine in the morning...well the morning came a long and no OD or anything...I later stopped for gas and i got back on the tollway and i had OD again(wahoo i got 36mpg on that tank  ) After that tank I havent had it except for one time this past weekend for maybe 15-20mins(i still get 27-28mpg on the highway...go figure )...well anyway tonight i was driving home and my car didnt wanna shift into 3rd anymore and i looked down and i had the shifter in 3rd so i just said what the hell and shifted into D and it shifted into 3rd...and now everytime i put the shifter in 3rd the car stays in 2nd...wtf?!?! I can't get it to manually shift down to 1 either...maybe i should try to use 2nd on the shifter and see if that helps...what are your ideas? Do you think electrical(TCM,wiring, etc), mechanical failure, or like fluid problems? Thanks in advance, Tony Quote
J Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 check the fluid, and the filter, has it been changed? Do you have a 4T60, or 4T60-E? prolly the E correct? Your best bet would be to check and see if the electrical connections to the trans are getting power with a multimeter. THat's where i'd start first. Good Luck Quote
slick Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 ...nothin like 3100rpms at 70mph in a V6... Thats about normal for me. Quote

Thats about normal for me. yeah but you got about 4grand left to go I havent changed the fluid or the filter since ive owned it...like a little over 40k and who knows if its ever been done...i thought it seemed electrical but ill give those a try too... and oops yeah its the 60-E with a 3100....1994 gp se Quote
mihela816 Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 Mine does it too... oh, wait, it's a 3-speed. Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 FYI: my '94 3100 does 70mph at about 2250RPMS and does 80mph at 2500rpms. I'd definately flush the tranny and change the fluid & filter too if it's been atleast 40,000 miles. Quote

Brian P Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 from reading the 2nd half of your post, it sounds like the shifter cable may be slightly out of adjustment. THat would explain how it comes and goes regardless of temperature. Next time it happens, slowly guide the shifter towards Neutral but don't go into it. See if 4th works. If that's the case, I can tell you how to re-adjust it, and just go buy me a cookie Quote
