shelby987
I have come across a manual transmission down the road that looks to be in decent condition for the price. I was wondering how to tell if its a 282 or 284. Also, I am looking to do a L67 swap into a 96 grand prix, and was wondering if one or the other was more ideal for a high torque/high hp application. Does anyone know of any high performance rebuild kits offered for this transmission? Thanks
mihela816
The 284 cannot be rebuilt. The 282 is somewhat weaker, but can be upgraded. Clutches are pricy for the 284.
J
284 can be rebuilt, but good luck finding the parts and the prices are very high. My cousin does trannys for a living and he said people usually pay his shop to convert over to auto tranny, before rebuilding the

brianteel
the year of the car tells you what manual it has.....88-90 is the 282 and the 91-93 is 284. i am working on getting the G6 tranny to bolt up so that will be the best option. look on http://www.l67swap.com there is info for 5spd swap L67 swap and i will have updated info on the 6spd swap. the 6spd swap will go into a 98+ GTP but should work for most year w-bodies. i was running a 282 against the L67 . the only issue i had was that 1st was short but it was great to drive
