Hi all

Al my 89 Regal GS (2.8) there is a metal coolant pipe which runs from the left side of the engine across the front to under the plenujm. It started leaking so the garage reapired it by replacing it with the right size heater hose. Seems to work. Should I try to get the original part and do it properly or is the heater hose trick good enough ??

Thanks

Well I had mine changed 2 years ago to rubber hosing instead of the old rust-prone metal line and haven't had a problem since then...in fact, they told me it was a lot cheaper, easier to install, and more reliable...

Mine came with the leaking section already replaced with rubber hose. Started leaking at the end near the frame rail. Replaced with new hose and clamp, still leaks. Going to try removing, coating with RTV sealant, and reinstalling.

20 F outside and no garage to work in, haven't done it yet. Coolant is too efficient at heat transfer from hands to car. Hose clamps seem to tighten a bit more each time I try re-tightening them, maybe the clamps work loose from heating/cooling cycles, or the rubber hose is crushing more each time? Are there different quality hose clamps? Using whatever Autozone has.
