chadz34 Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 Outside of an engine bay, this motor is a breeze. No one's gonna take it out to do a timing belt though, but I see what you are saying for the kids now. Quote
mfewtrail Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 No one's gonna take it out to do a timing belt though, but I see what you are saying for the kids now. You'd be surprised. Some have mentioned wanting to remove their engines to do the timing belt.....and they were being serious. Quote
streetdreams Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 I think they have alot of good reasons to destroy cars after concept times and donate 'perfectly good cars' for education. my school had a special automotive program we received fresh shipments of tools from mastercraft and 5 new northstars every semester, tools even still in the packaging were still sent back for new packaged tools, motors were sent back in theyre crates and than we were shipped out new ones. the motors were brand new and theyre was online training for us to learn these motors and GM techniques. graduates were ushered into GM dealers. GM believed by providing better education and support they could grab the attention and passion of young techs and I have to say it works well. I'm a gm guy and I'l never forget that program and what they did for us. I think the cost was a mere sidenote and they received theyre investment back 10 fold if they even got 2 professional techs fresh out of high school every year. as for concepts and prototypes look at it like the military. in WWII all the militarys destroyed theyre equipment that couldnt move to stop it from falling into enemy hands. I mean if someone from a rival car company could have purchased or outbidded for a used prototype featuring new technology items like side curtain air bags, self tinting glass, dual climate, quiet steel etc etc what would happen? thats the last thing ANY car company wants to have happen and thats why they ALL destroy theyre concepts. you gotta remember this is such a competitive industry that EVERY year car co's buy showroom models from theyre rivals in large numbers and tear them down, cut them up etc looking for any improvments they could develop into theyre new models. b.t.w 'splitting' all the parts is a bit extreme, last time I checked all you have to do with engine parts is give them a good bang on the edge of a work bench and theyre instantly no good ever again Quote
