pitzel Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 See topic: mine's leaking again, and I fitted a gasket the last time I did it. Permatex Blue RTV, is that the stuff to use in addition to the gasket? I am sick of this thing dumpin oil on the driveway. Quote
gp90se Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 on a 3.1? replace the gasket and use a little red RTV on the top for extra protection. hour job to do, theres a writeup on the main page. Quote
pitzel Posted August 22, 2005 Author Report Posted August 22, 2005 Ok, this is what I ended up doing. I did the whole pull the drive and replace the internal seal deal last year. It still seeps a little bit of oil out of the top. So I didn't pull the whole drive this time, but put a bunch of blue RTV all around it. Hopefully will stop the seepage, eh? I used to lose 1 quart of motor oil every 3000 miles out of the thing, and have cut that back substantially. But spots on the driveway are unnacceptable, and I would like to move into a condo someday (where you get in shit if you have leaking oil). So hopefully this works... Quote
gp90se Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 go to the GM dealer, get the tan silicone o ring and do it again, top it off with red RTV and that should take care of it. ive done 2, yet 2 have 1 leak Quote
