fastbird232 Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 Odd in that I want to swap my perfectly good LQ1 for a 3100. Hard to do? Quote
jeremy Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 I would just sell the GTP and buy a 3100 powered W Quote
J Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 can i ask why in the hell would u want to do that? Quote
fastbird232 Posted August 19, 2005 Author Report Posted August 19, 2005 Aw hell no. 1) I like the leather interior. 2) The loan balance is higher than what the car's worth, and I can't transfer the title until it's paid off. 3) It's just a temporary swap; I'd keep the DOHC in the garage until it's safe (for my wallet) to reinstall. Quote
fastbird232 Posted August 19, 2005 Author Report Posted August 19, 2005 I'll tell you why: $2.88 and climbing. Ok, ignoring the logistics of saving money on gas by changing the whole motor, FROM A TECHNICAL STANDPOINT, is it plug and play??? Quote
jeremy Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 1) I like the leather interior. my cutty had a 3100 and leather 2) The loan balance is higher than what the car's worth, and I can't transfer the title until it's paid off That I can understand 3) It's just a temporary swap; I'd keep the DOHC in the garage until it's safe (for my wallet) to reinstall. If it is only temporary, I must ask why? Quote
Regalblue Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 I dunno how hard it would be. But, I have an engine for you down here in Redford. http://www.w-body.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=32645&highlight= Quote
jeremy Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 I just saw you mentioned gas prices as the reason. In my experience the 3100 isn't much better on MPG then the 3100 is. But know the swap isn't plug and play. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 Save your GTP and get a j-body if you are that worried about gas. Why is it temporary anyways? Waiting for gas to get cheaper? Quote
fastbird232 Posted August 19, 2005 Author Report Posted August 19, 2005 Ah. Crap. Yeah, even when gas was in the $1.75 range, I still wanted a smaller motor for mileage because I've got a baby/college and I'd keep the LQ1 in storage until I could afford a "hot rod." I don't want to part with it because I'm hoping to keep the rust off it long enough to pass it to my daughter on her 16th, but damn if it's not hard using a '95 GTP as a family car. Well anyhow, the computers are different, right? Motor mounts, shit like that? Quote
fastbird232 Posted August 19, 2005 Author Report Posted August 19, 2005 No, waiting until I get a better job and can afford expensive gas! Quote
Prospeeder Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 the 3100 and LQ1 get around the same milage, the 3100 i belive gets like 19/30 or so, and the LQ1 gets liike 17 or 18 city and like 28-30 highway, i think, but i know there not gas hogs Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 I average 23mixed, 30+ highway. Not bad, I get about 300-400miles per tank (I forget cause it's been a while since I've filled it up ALL the way.. ). I still don't think it's worth swapping V6s though... you'll just miss the extra power you had. Quote
manitcor Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 the 3100 is no better on gas than the DOHC and the 3400 isint any better either. My best highway is 29.8 mpg and my best city is 23mpg. So you spending alot of money to do nothing. Quote

fastbird232 Posted August 19, 2005 Author Report Posted August 19, 2005 Sell my GTP? Bah, I'd rather spend hundreds of dollars/hours putting in a weaker motor. Well, maybe not. Guess I'll just leave it the way it is. Quote
EurosportZ34 Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 I'd rather spend hundreds of dollars/hours putting in a weaker motor. that would be the worst decision you could make! that would be like ripping the "P" from your GTP Quote
z34_nut Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 thats stupid, I get 30 mpg in each of my 3.4's In my experience the 3100 isn't much better on MPG then the 3100 is. uh huh....you don't say Quote
