hopefulfan_dc Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 I was wondering if I can take the top end of a L67 and use the bottom end from 3.1L. Sounds stupid but I know with many GM V8's you can do this. Wondering about the family tree of GM V6's. The displacement is different....I know. I am a mechanical engineer so please do not spare the boring details.... Questions: 1. Is the block the same....just bored out or are they from a totally different family? 2. What mods would be neccessary to do this....if possible? 3. Does the L67 bolt directly into my bay....I have a 90 Cutty International? 4. Can someone put a post on how to do an L67 swap since its the best swap for a W-body.....it only makes sense!? Help me....I have spent so long learning about big V8s that I have forgotten that I am driving a nice project car to work everyday. Quote
GP1138 Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 You can't just take the top end of an L67 and bolt it onto a 3.1L. The 3.1L is a 60* V6, while the L67 and related 3800 brethren are 90*. Sorry. Quote

Like has been said, the blocks are from two different families of engines. Swapping the top ends would not work. However, there are numerous posts on this site and others like http://www.l67swap.com that have how to on swapping the L67 into a 1st gen W. If you need anything else just let us know. Quote
hopefulfan_dc Posted August 17, 2005 Author Report Posted August 17, 2005 So the only engines in the 60 degree family are 3100, 3.1L, 2.8L...and that's it.. I still am interested in the swap because the 3800 is a damn good engine...my uncle got a buick with 350K miles....so I want one. So does anyone know a good place to get a 3800 Series II...for a decent price. I live in DC and its hard to find american cars at the junkyard...all they got is Japs I can get a whole damn Riviera for about $3500 so why pay all that money for a crate engine or a swap unles its cheap. The 60 degree family includes 2.8L and 3.1L aluminum and iron head versions, 3.4L iron head, 3100, 3400, 3.4L DOHC, and the 3.6 DOHC (I think) the new 3500 and soon to be 3900. All of this is at http://www.60degreev6.com if you are interested Quote
