91oldscutlass
Ok back when I had my Cutlass we all had discussed about me loseing fire. I think it was Turby or maybe even Brian that told me about losing power somewhere that was common to the W Body cars. Hers what is going on. I went out one morning started the Lumina up moved it about 10 feet and shut it off. I went back out to start it again...and it wouldnt start. All I could think was here I go again. I check the codes....None. I check for fire...None. So the first thing I do is pull off the Module and have it checked. Its good. They rechecked it for at least ten minutes. It heated up like it should and still tested good. I bought a Crank sensor thinking that might be the problem. I put the module and coil packs on and thought just for giggles I would try to start the car. It started. So i didnt put the new crank sensor in. Just to much of a bitch to put in anyways. So it hasnt given me any problems at all till today. I started it up and took off...went about ten feet it stopped running. I pushed it out of the street and it started up. No problem. I drove it around for a little bit. Came back home and it started up several times...No problem. There has to be something somewhere wrong. Turby or Brian if you guys remember what you said about the electrical on my Cutlass..remind me what was said. Anyone else got any ideas...please let me know...the wife is really getting pissed. joey b
the connectors are probably shot. They don't fit snuggly on the pins in the module. I had quite a headache with mine a couple of months ago. BTW, if you took the module to Autozone, don't believe their tests. Take it to NAPA. The tester at auto zone doesn't get it hot enough. 91oldscutlass
Ok heres the funny thing....I drove it around the last couple of days without the air on. I stomped on it for the first time cause of some dummy trying to race and Ford aspire. So the Check engine light came on. Code 32. I call a couple of places like Autozone (I hate that place) Advance and a couple of others. They all tell me there is no 32 in their books. So I go out to start it today ...no start. WTH? I played with it for about an hour. I turned on the air again and it started. It stayed running. I dont get it. If you turn off the air...it wont run now. If the air is on and going down the road...you turn it off it will start sputtering...turn the air back on and it stops sputtering. It make no sence. I have never seen anything like this before. I hate computer cars!!
GP1138
NEWS FLASH AUTOZONE IS FULL OF SHIT CODE 32 Trouble Code 32 indicates that the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system has detected a fault. There are two types, the older integrated electronic EGR contains a voltage regulator which converts the ECM signal to provide different amounts of EGR flow by regulating the current to the solenoid. The ECM controls EGR flow with a pulse width modulated signal (turns "ON" and "OFF" many times a second) based on airflow, TPS, and RPM. This system also contains a pintle position sensor which works similar to a TPS sensor, and as EGR flow is increased, the sensor output also increases. The other type is a digital 3-level EGR used in newer engines. Code 32 will get set when: * (Integrated EGR) Coolant temperature above the specified amount, EGR should be on. * (Integrated EGR) EGR pintle position does not match duty cycle. * (Digital EGR) Failure of EGR system. Possible causes include: 1. Faulty EGR valve-to-ECM connection 2. Plugged EGR passages and/or sticking EGR valve 3. Defective EGR valve 4. Defective ECM Check the shop manual for details on vehicle specific EGR valve applications. Edit: That also kinda sounds like it's having trouble idling lower than ~1k RPMs. If you turn the A/C on I believe the IAC raises the idle and therefore it doesn't die like it would at a lower engine speed. Your EGR passages might need cleaning or you may just need to plain old replace the valve.
91oldscutlass
This morning, it decided it wasnt going to start at all. This time I got a new code. Code 42. Module. 80 dollars later it runs again. This is twice I have changed it and I just dont understand why it didnt give me this code before. Now itruns good with the air off or on. The EGR I have done nothing with....but the code 32 has went away. I am going to change the ECM tomarrow.
joey b
I've gotten code 32 a couple of times and it was a result of something else. I've learned to disregard that code whenever I get it now. It could be a number of things that cause the EGR to not work correctely, throwing the code.
