interesting...... then 2WJ19 = GP SE coupe with a 9 code restraint system(???), 2WJ37 = GP SE convertible(?!?1/!?!?) with a 7 code restraint system(???)...... so i'm certain it's not directly usable/related.

 

in the VIN, the digits are arranged:

 

1 Country of origin (1=US)

2 Company (G=GM)

3 Make (2=Pontiac)

4 Platform (W=W=Grand Prix)

5 Trim (J=SE, H=LE, P=GT/GTP, T=STE)

6 Body Style (1=2 door coupe/sedan)

then 10-17 are the serial number

 

If the J represents an SE, and it's that obvious on the VIN, why the *expletive deleted* is mine getting kicked back a GT?

I just ran my GPs vin on compnine. It's 1 of 7. A quote from the original 91-93 GT debate thread.

 

I just heard back from Pontiac, they confirmed(although, I had earlier too ) that the GT's could recieve the 3.1 or 3.4's.

 

"1991 Grand Prix Production Total

2-Door Coupe - GT = 2,546

The 3.1L V6 with 4-speed automatic transmission was standard, the 3.4L DOHC 24-valve V6 engine with 5-speed manual or an electronically controlled 4-speed automatic was available."

 

1992 Grand Prix Production Total

2-Door Coupe - GT = 1,380

The 3.1L V6 with 4-speed automatic transmission was standard, the 3.4L Twin Dual Cam V6 with 5-speed manual or electronically controlled 4-speed automatic was available"

 

1993 Grand Prix Production total

2-Door Coupe - GT = 932

I forgot to ask about whether or not they got hood louvers, but oh well.

 

According to Compnine 3,789 GT coupes were produced in 1991. 2,464 had the B4U package. 2008 had the DOHC engine, and 1781 had the LH0 engine.

 

Another interesting bit, 2,613 had the P245/55R/16 tires and 1,176 had the P225/60R/16.

No, no. When I enter my VIN, the basic description of the vehicle (before any of the RPO codes) comes up GT. 1G2WJ14T6NF262177

 

That is including the fact that it has the letter "J" denoting SE, and came equipped with the LH0 (standard for the GTs, option was 3.4 I guess)

That is exactly what is throwing me off so badly. Compnine is kicking it back a GT, when others with the same lead-in which denote SE that I've checked so far are showing just Grand Prix 2 DR.

 

But if the GT merchandise was a specific option list, you'd think it would include louvered hood. Mine doesn't have that, and I am -fairly- certain it came with the factory hood on it to me, but it had already been debadged, so no help there.

My GT does not have a factory louvered hood. I added that myself. I don't know of any way to tell a SE and a GT apart besides the badges or the VIN. GT cars did not get a louvered hood even when a DOHC was optioned.

 

As far as other options go, GTs can be hit or miss. They can be loaded or can be kind of base.

Wikipedia says the last International was in 1993. I'm not sure how true that is. Advance Auto Parts does list "Cutlass Supreme International" as a model but I've never physically seen an International with the Camaro/Grand Prix headlights. If I recall correctly, 1992 was the last year for many of the "International" parts. The refresh dropped a lot of things. 92 was the last year for the digi cluster, I want to say 91 was the last year for AQ9 seats, since I've never seen a 92 with them. The HUD lived until 1994, DIC was available until 92 I want to say. Door mounted speakers are a rarity.

Yes, the last Int'l was 1993. 1991 was the last year for the full UB3 digital cluster, 1993 for the bast digital cluster; AQ9s were standard on all Int'ls through 1993; DIC's last year was 1991 and they are very rare with less than 1000 total coming with it; Door mounted speakers came with the higher end stereos.

 

Although most 1992-93 Int'ls came with the 3.4 DOHC, there were still a handfull made with the 3.1.

Great info guys.  So it looks like the 92 cars are pretty rare and the 93's are really, really rare.  Didn't know about the door mounted speakers, my 91 has that option.  It was also born with factory CD player.  Were the speakers only for CD player equipped cars or did the higher end cassette radio also have this option?  Were the 92-93 International cars pretty loaded with options to maybe clear out the parts bins at the factory?
