streetdreams
again you gotta think to yourself. if its there, they musta put it there for a reason. tranny's have had magnets since the first hydramatic went into production. I wouldnt trust a tranny without one. and drainplug magnets. well think about it for one we didnt have the greatest manufacturing technology up until the mid 80's so incorporating a magnet into the tip of a drainplug probably would have been pretty expensive, and 2 they wernt running the clearances and heat that is a part of every new car made today. a cavalier engine gets pretty hot with that tiny engine bay compared to say a big old RWD impala. and most of the new cars have 6500+ redlines. take 6500rpm + friction in tight clearance areas + restricted ventilation/aeration and your gonna want to do everything you can to stop any metal shaving from entering between parts. just my opinion anyway b.t.w I put earth magnets on the back of my oil filter as well to help keep the dirt out the system
