Supreme Cutlass Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 After running my car for a lil bit, you get out and it smells absolutley horrible. It's smelled bad since I got it, but it's nowhere near as bad as the very first time it started. What would cause this problem? I can't think of anything to describle the smell.. one of my friends got out of the car once and said it smelled like ass... that seems to be the best description so far Quote
GP1138 Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 Bad Catalytic Convertor, that's a telltale sign. Rotten eggs? After awhile of driving, look under the car and see if the Cat is glowing. If indeed the Cat is bad, find out what did it, something's not tuned on your car, bad sensor, something. They don't just go bad, they are murdered. Quote
Robby1870 Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 just bang on the cat. If it rattles, its bad, usually Quote
JakeMetz63 Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 does it smell like sulfer? my cutty had that problem, its a bad cat.... Quote
MonteCarloChick Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 Not always a bad cat... it could be a high sulfur content in the gas you purchased for your car. Common mistake. Quote
Hairdo12 Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 If you have bad spark you could also be dumping unburned fuel in the exhaust. It happened to me and it smelled terrible. I'd check the plugs, wires, coil packs and icm. Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 They don't just go bad, they are murdered. high mileage murdered mine Quote
nebojsa_o Posted August 3, 2005 Report Posted August 3, 2005 I was just gonna look up this problem, and what are the odds of finding it. And I really like the first descreption on the smell. Mine was horrible yesterday, it was hot outside, and I picked up my friend, and she says, did some one take a shit in your trunk?? I checked it out, and it was coming from the exhaust, and actually it smelled like everything mentioned so far, ass, rotten eggs, sulfur... I put in $20 of gas just a day before, and it smelled horrible. I filled her up today fully, and I can't smell a thing, well other than the usual. So I'm guessing MonteCarloChick was right in my case, and if not, I know what the problem is anyways. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted August 3, 2005 Report Posted August 3, 2005 That happened once to me, when I lost a cylinder on the way home from work. All the plugs has a little bit of oil ash on them from buring a little oil I mean cmon she is what 11yrs old, anyways, I could smell the exhuast even when I stopped at a red light. I was just dumping unburned fuel in. when I replaced the one plugs, and cleaned the others, the smell went away. I doubt it could be the plugs making it smell that bad, but probably just unburned fuel. Quote
