Getrag 284 is geared better for the 3.4s power range, plus it is built better to take the power.

As for the all the things you'd need someone else could chime in on that.

Yes, but he's got a '96, and no one currently makes any sort of chip for the '96. You'd have to custom burn your PCM with a Tech-II or something of the like to use a manual with the engine. I wouldn't bother even trying this seeing as you aren't even coherent enough to write a sentence properly.

dont listen to this fucking prick, just because someone makes a small typo doesnt mean they cant accomplish a mechanical task that has NOTHING to do with typing on a computer

to do the 5 speed swap youll need the trans and all of the pedal assembly as well as a new center console thats made for the 5 speeds. im not quite sure but IIRC there is already an opening for the clutch pedal in the firewall and youll need a different brake pedal. i havent ever done the swap since i stopped fucking around with w's a while ago but im sure if your search here you might be able to find a step by step or log of someone who has

sorry that he insulted you when you were just looking for some info even though i shouldnt be apologozing for him

Sorry, but I'd like to think that ineptitude goes hand-in-hand with incoherence. I'm positive that a hole would have to be drilled for the clutch pedal. It's fine having all the parts and have it mechanically put in the car, but as I said before, he's running OBD-II, and no one can sell you an off-the-shelf PCM to throw in the car. Brian Teil (sp?) from L67swap.com might be able to help you out with flashing the PCM with the correct parameters for a manual. You don't need a new brake pedal, cutting the current one he has would work fine, and quite a number of the 5-speed swap guys have done just that. As far as an opening in the firewall goes, I'm not sure how the shift cable was routed in the 94+'s. If it's like the older W-bodies are, there'll be a gromet in the firewall to the left of the steering column. This is used for the column shift. You'll need to punch a hole in it and fish the cables through.

Phantom.. just..

just what?

so you know what goes into doing a 5 speed swap, why didnt you tell him in the first place? do you like being an asshole? seems like it since your location is in the forum asshole, how much is rent there nowadays?

you have the knowledge of what goes into a 5 speed swap, congrats, youll have a 3.4 hooked to a 5 speed with what, that fastest time in the 14's? wow, all of that work for a car thats hardly quick

Way to help out guys.

getwill.......the only guy I know of that swapped a 5psd into a 94+ car was soccerplayergtp. Try getting ahold of him if you can. If not search around on the forum...he posted lots of pics from the swap.

kids   . anyhow, i think you will also have to change the firewall assembly that holds the steering wheel and pedals. the 94+ i believe did not have a place to mount a clutch pedal. then you will have to drill and tap new holes so that your 96 steering column will bolt to the older firewall plate.

also i think you will have to drill a hole in the firewall for the master cylinder pushrod to connect to the clutch pedal, which is what i think digital outsider was trying to say. and after all that you still have the problem of refalshing your pcm like he said above.

Buy an older 5 speed Cutlass and quit worrying about swapping your 96'.

It *can* be done, but take that with a grain of salt. It's a lot of work & hassle.

really? how so? and why? logic would dictate that if the hole is there for the master cylinder, you should be able to put the master cylinder directly in.

is this just another gm quirk? or maybe the hole in the 94+ cars was meant for another wiring harness for some option they never got?

also, i don't see why there would be a hole for a master cylinder when the firewall plate doesn't even have a sopt for a clutch pedal.

it's because that hole is there for other reasons than a clutch master cylinder. on my Cutlass, that hole was round and the column shifted automatic transmission shifter cable passed through it with a round grommet. on floor shifted automatic cars, there is simply a rubber plug there with nothing passing through it. on cars with a 5-speed, the hole isn't round, it's actually a square hole with cut-off corners (hard to explain without a pic).

i easily modified the round hole into a larger square hole in just a few minutes. i didn't even have to take the brake booster out. a Dremel tool with an 18" flexshaft and a tungsten carbide cutter works very well for modifying the hole so you can fit the clutch master cylinder in :)
