joey b Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 a new exhaust will give better gas mileage due to a more efficient engine. You have less of the exhaust gasses fighting with each other. Ever notice that although you are not using your air conditioning and always have your windows up, hence giving you better aerodynamics, you get worse gas mileage in the winter? Lower temps= more dense air= more air molecules= more needed gasoline Quote

Dannymik Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 just go all out and do a FWI...those cheap ass WAI's arent good for anything but looks ditto...all noise, but you lose lowend power from my experience Quote
manitcor Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 there's a CAI kit available from Milzy Motorsports for a 95+ Monte 3100. I talked briefly with Manticor about it on MyMonte. Anyone on here who doesn't mind a battery relocation and has a 3100 should be able to use it. With a little modification you might be able to use it on a 3.1, but I'm not sure. Someone like Manticor would be better qualified to answer that question. I was going to get one, but I'm keeping my setup as is b/c i'm not sure if I'll be keeping the cutty or not when I get the G6 in the spring. I can try and find a link if ppl are interested in the CAI. Let me know. Actually I was wrong, according to Milzy battery relocation is not neccassary. However Im not sure how this is achieved. Also something to keep in mind is that there are slight body differences between the different w-bodys so an intake for one SHOULD work on all of them but MAY need some tweaking. Another option is intake tubing from Intense or ZZP. Its about $10 per foot and it strong as hell stuff but very flexible. Quote
BIGBULS Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 2 things.......... 1) Intakes WILL give better gas mileage at cruise. Sure, under WOT the engine gets more total air and thus has to add more fuel (which is one way to make power), but at lower throttle positions, the computer is still trying to target a pretty lean A/F ratio............and since the lower restriction means less throttle to maintain a certain speed (and therefore less air and less fuel), you actually DO pick up a small bump in fuel economy. 2) You CAN run a proper CAI on a W-Body with an OHV 660, WITHOUT relocating the battery. Just take an E-Bay special WAI, yank the filter, buy (1) 90 degree and (1) 45 degree aluminum bend(s), along with some short sections of straight aluminum 3in pipe, and a pair (maybe 3-4) silicone couplers. Then route the piping off of the E-Bay special's 60ish degree bend, back towards the center of the car (and under or over the coolant pipe depending on whether you have a 3.1 or 3100), then have the filter (of your choice) sitting BEHIND the fans, but lower than the exhaust manifold...................sucking off of the ground. Simple. Quote
