chadz34 Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 Everyone remembers Brian from http://www.brian89gp.com right? How much did that cost him to do? I wouldn't mind turboing up my DOHC. If I can get a rough guess on the price it might happen. It seems like everyone is going turbo so I might as well too. Anyways what would a turbo DOHC run in the 1/4? Thanks guys. Later. Quote
slick Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 Are you going to do it all yourself, or gonna have someone do it? You will need tons of parts- turbo, custom downpipe, custom crossover pipe, oil return lines, someone to tap into your oil pan for an oil return line, wiring, tons of tubing, intercooler, tons of welding, and various other stuff. Plus, you will need to prep your engine for boost. Wouldn't hurt to replace pretty much your top-end gaskets(head gaskets, intake gaskets), going to need to adjust the fuel delivery system, etc... If you do it yourself, you might be able to pull it off for about $1200-$1500. If you don't do it yourself, you will probably spend about what most of the cars on here are worth. Quote
Darkness Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 It might be a lot easier, though not necessarily cheaper, to slap a supecharger on your car instead. Check out: http://www.paxtonauto.com/ Quote
JJ77 Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 RMS Racing will put a supercharger on your car..... For the low, low price of $5500 Quote
JoroCorona Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 The Paxton Novi-2200RR will spin the proper way for our serp belts. All you would need to do is pipe it and setup the ECU to deal with the pressue and you should be fine if you do low boost. Higher boost will be more work, but it shouldn't be too hard. Quote
Heza Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 screw supercharging a 3.4. would not fit if your life depended on it...well...maybe, but what an asspain it would be. turboing will run you close to $4k or so. topless94style is almost done with his turbo project on his '94 cutty vert and is tipping $4k. Dannymik Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 that is one Cutty vert I would kill for...the 3.4 with massive torque...priceless! Quote

Uh... All you need to do is relocate the coolant tank. Not hard at all. I'm talking centrifugal, not roots. Roots would be a pain and half in the ass. Quote

JoroCorona Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 The supercharger setup that I'm working on bolts into the PS pump cradle. Its pritty much points right off the end of the engine. The charge pipe is going to run across the back of the engine bay and into the stock TB. Simple. Quote

Simple. back of the engine bay? ick. you thermal wrapping it several hundred times? cant you run it down in front into an intercooler or so and then back up? either way, sounds interesting. got any pics? JoroCorona Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 No, not yet. I gotta get a new engine before I do anything with this car. I have the supercharger and some odds and ends in a box in my closet, but nothing else has really been done yet. Quote
chadz34 Posted July 28, 2005 Author Report Posted July 28, 2005 So, basically if I do it myself I could get it done for $1500? I'm gonna need some help my dad will help me out. It looks easy, but I bet it's a pain in the ass. And, wouldn't a turbo give the 3.4 even less low end and a massive high end? Quote
Turbocharged400sbc Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Turbocharging the rear 3800 in our twin V6 1994 Olds 442... I have conections so i have gotten alot of the stuff fer cheap, plus i have welders/plasmacutter and a Bridgport, Jig bore etc available... it depends on what you can source (a turbo with an internal wastegate etc) or get a Turbo Porsche WG, Mitsu BOV etc from a Junkyard... As the saying goes.. how fast doya wanna go? how thick is yer wallet If the Turbo is properly sized/selected you can have both bottom end power and top end... Regards, James Quote

And, wouldn't a turbo give the 3.4 even less low end and a massive high end? Depends on the quality of the products, what you buy, condition of the products(new, used, etc...). Hell, you could easily drop $1200-$1300 into just the turbo alone. Then your looking at an easy $100-$300 for an intercooler, you have oil lines, the custom crossover pipe and downpipe, you have flanges that need to be made. Basically, if you don't know what your getting yourself into, and haven't really researched it, don't do it. Quote
chadz34 Posted July 28, 2005 Author Report Posted July 28, 2005 Thanks for the advice. I will do more research to see what all has to be done. Quote
