SUPERDUTYD
the 3100 on my monte is leaking alot of oil and i was thinking of replacing it with a low mileage 3100 or 3400. up to what years can i use with minor modification. i see alot of 2000-2003 engines for sale. i thought after i did the o-ring on my z34 lumina i would never have to do that again. i guess i was wrong. did gm ever fix the dist. o-ring problem? Turbocharged400sbc
there is an updated Nitryl rubber O ring that you can get from GM or most parts stores it is an orangish/brown color it is more resistant to oil than a rubber o ring the 2400 is a direct swap though you will need the PCM from the same model year the harness's are almost identical.. Turbocharged400sbc
but he will need to use the 3400 injectors..the rail and fpr regulator are the same on 96's
manitcor
actually you dont need the rail or the injectors from the newer engine unless you want to upgrade to the larger injectors in which case you need to tune your PCM to match the new injectors what all is required is dependant upon if you have a 95 LS or a 96+ LS check out http://www.3400swap.com for detailed information also check out http://www.mymonte.com there are about 5 3400 swapped members there including myself. SUPERDUTYD
but if i use say a 2001 3100, will my 96 wiring harness work, or are some sensors and stuff different?
Heza
just fix it. its not nearly as much of an asspain as the 3.4 is. 3100 o-ring does not take long at all.
SUPERDUTYD
the o-ring is just one leak, and it also burns a little. with the high mileage i would just rather swap engines, but most likely a newer 3100 as long as it the same as my 96.
