Nick1234 Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 About a month ago i noticed that grease was in the wheel well. I took off the tire and inspected the CV joint? It was the boot closest to the wheel. Im not to sure on the term. Anyway i inspected and could not find a hole or tear. But apparently im missing something. I guess my main question is should i replace the whole axle or should i take it somewhere and they can fix it.? Nick Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 sounds like the outer CV joint is leaking grease. if you can't find any damage to the CV boot i would pull the axle and just put a new clamp/s on it. you'll need a special pliers to do it and i would stay away from the cheapo clamps. of course, if it has leaked enough grease you may need to add more grease. Guest TurboSedan Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 btw, i had to put a new clamp on my inner CV boot. i was using a slide hammer to pull the axle out and it slipped pulling the CV boot completely off i used a cheapo clamp (the type that doesn't need the pliers to install), and it slowly leaked. even though it was a slow leak it whipped grease all over making a huge mess. finally i just brought the axle in to a shop and had them put a good new clamp on. they did it for free (besides cost of clamp), otherwise i would have just bought the pliers. 5speedz34 Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 I had the same problem, I just replaced the axle. I figured it lost enough and if it was leaking it would be worth a whole new axle then the 13 year old OEM's. Quote
Nick1234 Posted July 26, 2005 Author Report Posted July 26, 2005 ok so i found the problem. There is a very little whole in the boot. I can patch it up, but i think i need to get it repacked with grease. Where should i go to do that. The car is still driveable. would it cost a lot to get that done? Quote
