Guest Anonymous Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 EDIT: Stalled at a light again on saturday. Again, there was nothing amiss... the car has a quiet idle and i didnt even notice it died until i stepped on the gas at the green light. I tried fuel injector cleaner a few days before but that obviously didn't help... This has only happened twice with about a month or so in between incidents. Any other ideas? ORIGINAL POST: I was driving Precious today, I had to go make prints and the place was about 10 minutes up the highway. i got off the ramp, stopped at a light, turned, and stopped at another light. The car did not act strange, no sputtering, no heaving, it was just idling quiet at the LONG red light, and at some point died. I didn;t even notice it was off until I looked at the tach which was at 0. The temp was a notch or so below the 220 mark. Idle (before and after) was a bit below 1k, which is typical in my car. So i put it in park, start it, and it starts right back up, again nothing unusual, and then I drove around all day in this heat with no further problems. This was also the EXACT spot where the 95's timing belt broke. EXACT same spot. Strange... any idea? Quote

This is just a suggestion, try running fuel injector cleaner through the tank. I know on the 5-speeds there is a TSB for the injectors not keeping up on deceleration coming up to a light and having the car die. Also you could check fuel pressure and injector pulse. Quote

White93z34 Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 i remeber from time to time with the z34 it would stall out just at random, and never in any pattern. i never have paid much attention to it since the stalls hapiened withen months of eachother. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 I've editited above in my first post about the reoccuring problem. Quote
chadz34 Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 My car stalled out once. When it first came home from storage and it sat for 3 years. It quit when I put it in reverse. Since then it's never done that again. Quote
jeremy Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 Sorry to hear that you are still having problems with her. Random problems are so hard to diagnose. Quote
chadz34 Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 Hey Ross, when it stalled, when it starts up again, it starts normal right but it starts a little harder. I mean, does it rev a little higher when you start it again? I couldn't even fucking explain myself there. Quote
Brian P Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 it's a 3.4L thang. My friend had it happen to his '93 w/ DOHC 3.4. He had gotten an updated memcal from GM and it seemed to have fixed it, but he didn't keep that engine too long to test it. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 No, it seems to be starting normal. idle is a bit below the 1 mark on the tach, and when i start it up, it **appears to be** at that same spot- but since this happens at lights i really didnt look, and as soon as it started i drove off. However, i've had a higher idle (mayke like 1.5k) on isolated cold-start situations. What is so wierd is, this happens completly at random and shows no symptoms of another problem. Simply put, it just dies during normal condittions and starts right up, again nothing amiss. I know this is coming out strange, but it is hard to type out this situation. The car does not act strange, there is no sputtering or joking, it just dies out silently without notice.... Quote
chadz34 Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 I don't know...If it stalls but starts again and doesn't happen for a while I wouldn't be too worried about it. Quote

I'm not really "worried" per say, but its very inconvienent when it does happen... but if there is a source to the problem i would like to find it. Quote
chadz34 Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 I know what you mean, it happened to my car once. I threw it in park and started it up again ''BRRRROW'' she went like nothing even happened. Weird to say the least. Quote
Stekman Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 If it just died without notice, it sounds like the ignition is losing its reference. Fuel cutout would more or less sputter to a stop as pressure died off. I'm used to a distrubutor system, so the DIS systems are fairly new to me. Are these systems the kind where the cam sensor is only really used at startup and the ignition is based off the crank sensor? Also, do these have ignition modules? Quote
chadz34 Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 If most 3.4's stall out the odd time....it's probably the engine or the condition of the weather anything can make it stall. Yes the 3.4's have igintion modules. Quote
