test4echo Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 Ok, Heres my problem. 92 Z34 Few weeks ago, I drove to work. Everything fine. Spent about 3 hours inside. Came back out started it up, and noticed a squeel right away. Drove about 100 feet, pulled over turned the car off. Lifted the hood and saw SMOKE coming from the general area of: The Passenger side engine bay bewtween the Power steering Pump and the Plenum. Now because of the squeel, and the staleing i had, I assumed it was a bad Alt or battery. Well I have replaced both, and the car will not start now. Could my Alt have caused a crank sensor to blow? Or some other thing? The guy I took my Alt to tested it, and said it was not putting out enough Amps, so I needed a change anyway.... Any ideals? Test, Quote
jdcutty Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 Make sure nothing is causing excessive drag on the belt (i.e. a/c compressor, p/s pump...). Also be sure that there is no fluid on the belt causing it to slip. Those would be the things that i would check. Im a dumbass though, no reason to listen to me. Quote
test4echo Posted July 21, 2005 Author Report Posted July 21, 2005 I did check the belts when I replaced the Alt, (Bitch of job) and all seems fine. The Serp belt Still looks new. The car cranks, So I know the BAT is ok. Check ICM it all checks out. I'm thinking now, the alt (although was dying) was not cause of my problems. After I had the car towed home from work that week. I got in the next day and she started right up. Went to the store, did a few things, and then she started making that squeel again. (Alt was first though). Came around the corner and she died straight away. Had her towed AGAIN. So, thats where I'm at. New Alt, new Bat, and a car that won't start. But she tries. NO Spark? Crank Sensor? Water Pump eh??? Never though of that........... Test, Quote
Justin Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 Take your serp belt off and find out what locked up. I had an alt rear bearing lock up on my CS and it killed the motor dead at idle. Quote
