Kalgorn Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 This has happened everytime in the past because the capacity is 5 quarts without the filter. Stop using Restore. Quote
bartonmd Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 I guess the obvious question is: Do you know that you have the correct dipstick? Like, have you seen other cars of the same year/engine with the same exact length of dipstick? It is possible that somebody left the dipstick on top of the rad and lost it driving, and replaced it with something out of a junk yard... seen it before... Mike Quote
JoroCorona Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 Restore works. I've tested it on my tired old 1990 Nissan. It evened out the compression (cyl 3 was leaking pritty bad) and I gained a total of 3 hp and 7 ftlbs of torque. Its nut much, but the car certainly ran better. I could balance a nickle on the valve cover. Quote

MoTox8410 Posted July 20, 2005 Author Report Posted July 20, 2005 can someone with a 3.4 measure just the metal part for me plz Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 for example my 3100 uses 1 quart less than the 3.4, so maybe you've got a dipstick meant for a car like mine. Well, that's if that is even somehow possible to have had a dipstick switched... Quote
MoTox8410 Posted July 20, 2005 Author Report Posted July 20, 2005 well i just got the car august of last year so i dont know much history on it Quote
MoTox8410 Posted July 20, 2005 Author Report Posted July 20, 2005 This has happened everytime in the past because the capacity is 5 quarts without the filter. Stop using Restore. haynes manual says 5qts with filter for the 3.4 Quote
gp90se Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 3.4 takes 5.5 quarts. i just changed my oil in my Z34 and i put 5qts+ a can of restore which is like 15oz ya dipstick has to be wrong Quote
MoTox8410 Posted July 21, 2005 Author Report Posted July 21, 2005 so can someone please measure the dipstick out of a 3.4 (only the metal part) Quote
Turbo231 Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 so can someone please measure the dipstick out of a 3.4 (only the metal part) My 93 LQ1 is 20-11/16" from tip to where it enters the plastic handle. Quote
MoTox8410 Posted July 22, 2005 Author Report Posted July 22, 2005 thanks....thats what i got when i measured mine do they make higher capacity oil pans for the 3.4?? Quote
Redwingvksm Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 i just changed my oil in my Z34 and i put 5qts+ a can of restore which is like 15oz as usual i used the higher volume filter pf52 ... Ding-Ding. Higher volume PF52 - more oil needed. Just top off with 6 and you'll be fine. It won't hurt to have a 1/2 over the dipstick... Quote
Kalgorn Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 Uh.. I thought overfilling was just as bad as underfilling.. :?: Quote
Redwingvksm Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 Uh.. I thought overfilling was just as bad as underfilling.. :?: Not within .5-1 qt. I've never had a problem with doing that to my vehicles - it's not like you're exactly at the bottom of our crankshaft travel... Quote
Heza Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 3.4 takes 5.5 quarts. affirmative. however, if you let it drain long enough you can fit 6 in like i just did on my last oil change. Quote
