DRGrocho Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 Vehicle: 99 Lumina LTZ 3.8l I am going to try to do some small modification to free up my exhaust. What I am thinking is that if I can find some headers for my car at a reasonable price, I would like to install them along with a cut-out, and then leave the rest of the exhaust alone. First: Are there any Headers available aside from the SLP ones for $695 Second: am I going to cause problems with my stock exhaust by using the headers instead of the manifolds? Pressure problems? running problems? mpg reduction problems? Third: I assume there are servo-actuated or mechanically switch-able cut-outs, but are the O2 sensor sims designed in such a way that I could wire them so I could toggle between real O2 and fake O2 sensors? Fourth: is this a rediculous idea because I wouldn't get much power from it? Quote
Robby1870 Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 running headers wont mess up anything, they definitely help. Might even free up a MPG or two, if you can keep your foot out of it. I dont know if there are any other headers, but I knew a guy with a Regal GS that had the SLP headers and they were very nice. You can run a fake O2, however, I dont know if you can toggle back and forth. It'd be a nice idea if you could. Just a simple toggle switch that went from real O2 wire to fake O2 wire would probably work. Quote
sonyman87 Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 GT1 cam, MMS heads, headers, 3800 stall, with the custout and basic intake will put you into the mid-low 14s Quote
mihela816 Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 The TOG headers are also out there, but remember that in a first gen W neither set will fit without some reshaping of the firewall. Quote
JoroCorona Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 He driving a 1.5 gen If you had a two way toggle, you could hook both O2 sensors to it and switch between the two. All you would need to switch is the signal wire. The rest of the O2 wires could be left on the regular and fake o2 at all times. Quote
DRGrocho Posted July 21, 2005 Author Report Posted July 21, 2005 Reshaping the firewall?, as in cutting and welding or using a bigass hammer to move a little something back by a little bit. How much are these headers...If they are a good price, I am sure that I could make them fit, altho I think reshaping the headers could be a better option. Cool, I was hoping there would be just one wire that I could toggle between. and the TOG headers don't seem to cost much less than the SLP Quote
