Need some light....

I ran a search through the forum but couldn't find an answer... Then again I havent found one any where else...

I got an OBDII code of 1810 Transmission Fluid Pressure (TFP) Valve malfunction a few days ago.... Honestly im not too sure what it is or does...

Can any one here shed some light on what and where it is? How i can fix the problem and what could have caused it for that matter? The car is a 97 GTP.

Any help would be greatly apreciated...

Thanks in advanced...

damn, it was close

i got a DTC 1811, which according to my awesome techline (best 40 bucks i spent)

"Maximum Adapt and Long Shift" aka Engine commands a shift, it doesnt shift, it maxes out pressure, causing wicked hard shifts.

i cant seem to find anything about your code though :?

did it light the CES light??? did it make shifting harsh?? it almost sounds like the same problem (maybe)

Yup, It did bring on the CES light.... Shifting had been a little harsh before the light came on, yet I did not get a CES light or OBD code then. I assume that "harshness" came from switching out the PCM to a DHP.

Now it still shifts as hard, but the car is extremly slugish. To give an example if i were to stomp the gas to WOT from a stop, the car would accelarate as if at 1/4 throttle.... Not even a tire chirp...

Once the car is in motion same scenario... Passing some one on the highway is almost out of the question.... It feel like im towing a 50' boat.

By the way thanks, on about 4 forums your the only one thats bothered to make a reply.

So this happened after you swapped in a DHP??? Did you happen to buy it used?

Well, I got the PCM 6+ months ago, and it was used.... I didnt think that was the cause of the problem since it has been so long since i bought it... The car ran great until now... But at this point Im considering it...

is it under warranty? if it is, put the stocker in and bring it to the dealership

i only paid 113 to get mine fixed (woulda been 900 or so with no warranty)

No such luck.... this 97 hasnt seen warranty in a long time.... :?

Well.... I guess the best course of action would be to do that anyways.... Put the stock pcm in give as much of an additional check up as I can my self, I want to make sure i exhaust all possible options i have to fix it myself... Then ill take it to the mechanic.... Hopefuly they'll be gentle.... :(

  • 1 month later...

I couldn't find an awnser to what EXACTLY causes this code, because I wasn;t about to or well couldnt afford to go to a dealer.

Searching and looking through diffrent W-body forums like clubgp.com, w-body.com, naioa.com, ect, and speaking to owners with the problem was inconclusive... People stated the problem was interlinked with every thing from burnt clutches, to exhausts problems, to electrical, to as in my case, boost control, ect.

Each person fixed a problem within one of these categories and or others and the code disapeared.

In my case I had a damaged pulley, i hadnt noticed ( i was looking towards the transmission before) which ended up falling off. The pulley was an idler for the SC belt, cutting boost significantly. I replaced it and for three going on four days (about 110 miles) havent seen the code or noticed any problems.

Hopefuly this will help some one doing the same searches for this problem.

Also... Hopefuly some one could tell me HOW THE HECK ANY OF THESE THINGS CAN RELATE TO THE SAME PROBLEM... "TRANSMISSION FLUID PRESSURE VALVE"?
