need help with hvac air box

i went to the jy the other day and finally found a car with the parts i need to finish off my dual zone climate control project. only i couldn't get the damn air box out. it sounds confusing, but i need to get the BOTTOM of the top half of the box. i have most of it, but the last part is somehow bonded to the bottom half of the box that holds the heater core.

 

has anyone taken out an entire air box before? i found 3 or 4 nuts in the engine bay that looked like they could be holding the airbox. however, after i removed them, i got in the car to try to get the box out and it wouldn't even wiggle a little. hopefully i can get some input on this before i go back to the yard again.
